It's a compatibility layer for Linux-it often works for Unity games. Worth a try!
That explain why it didn't work. I use Gamemaker Studio 2 for all my games. That may be why.
It can still occasionally work-Cook Serve Delicious (GM:S) and Cook Serve Delicious 2 (GMS2) both work in Wine.
