I agree, our theme execution is a bit vague, we had a big team with many ideas and we were jumping back and forth a lot to a point where it we didn’t manage to include the things that would make it fit like we had envisioned it.
I also agree with your second suggestion, level design was done directly at the start of the game, which gave us a good roadmap, but we followed it too strictly without questioning or playtesting enough if it would be understandable.
