It did take me a little while to get used to what I was actually doing, maybe having the upgrade icons visible in some form on the dens even when you aren't right next to them would've helped me adjust more quickly. However, I was still able to win, and I had a lot of fun playing this one.
The intro sequence is really fun to watch, and I was glad to see another title that used one!
