Wow I love your ideas, I managed to beat game easily now because I already figured everythig out. Only one thing, what is wendigo? Is that a dear? Why did you call it that? I would also like to add that player can't upgrade their speed and collecting stuff around like sticks, branches or those rubies would only slow them down, ofc workbench wouldn't be there, but that could be still funny to troll players that learn lol.
The deer are Wednigo in disguise - a Wendigo is from mative american mythologies I think, and they are creatures that eat humans and are attracted to death. A human could become a Wendigo by eating another human. And a Wendigo can also disguise themselves as deer, hence the deer-skull and weird no-deer anatomy of the creatures. Hope I helped!
