A simple, small game - I like that :-) And I am naturally "drawn" to games with a hand-drawn style. I have to give them all a try!
Played some rounds with mild success ;-) But enough to be able to give you some advice and hints for improvements.
Pros:
- The numbers are really big and easily recognisable - that's how it should be!
- The intro sequence is nice and so is the countdown at the beginning of the game
Cons:
- Bombs are too big and too irregular in shape, in combo with their rotation this makes avoiding collisions errratic or at least too hard to anticipate/predict
- No feedback when a collision takes place (except the very unnoticable removal of one live icon
- No option for readjustments after a collision
Advice/Improvements:
- Make the bombs more regular in shape (very close to a circle-round shape), and smaller
- Give feedback for collision in context of the character (letting it flash red or make the bomb explode), also supported by audible feedback
- Make character invincible for 1-2 secs after such a collision (again, give visual feedback, like a rapid flicker effect), to give players a chance to recompose and resort themselfs
And finally an offer: I am interested in Scratch, and how games are developed with it. And I like simple game concepts. So if you want, I can offer you to provide my hand-drawn art for your next project (or even this one here). In return, it would be nice if I somehow could get some insides from you, how you do this scratch-stuff, how your dev process is looking like. I provided all the art and UI design for this game here, which from the simplicity of mechanics etc. is quite comparable to yours: https://sealnf.itch.io/jamjump
