Yes, that's not a bug, the game doesn't have a save/load function or anything like that so whenever you press the game mode button, it resets your progress. I'm sorry if it wasn't clear and made you lost your progress :( But at least is not a long game, you can actually get to the boss in 2 or 3 minutes.
