Hey Null Builds!

What a fantastic little experience! Like others have said I really have no idea whether I saved everyone or doomed us all -- haha!

A couple notes after playing:

  • I really don't have anything to criticize other than the fact that I want MORE! Such a cool, concise experience with interesting world building and lore. I need you to continue development after the Jam :P
  • Maybe my one piece of criticism would be with the ship voice. I think you could mix in the pitch-shifting a bit more and possibly ring-mod it so it sounds a bit more robotic (would kind of sound like a dalek if you did ring mod at 100Hz). It didn't bother me though just a nitpicky thing that comes to mind.

What I liked:

  • The story! Really cool world building. I went through and read every terminal just because I wanted to learn more about what the heck was happening and learn more about what the ship's goal was. I need more of it haha
  • The sound effects you made are awesome! I love the "beep-boop" sound so much. I just kept repeating it out loud every time it would happen. They definitely added charm and character to the game. Great job!
  • The little detail with the trailing blood was so cool and clever. The whole style of the game in general was just fantastic honestly. Really brought me back to stuff I used to play as a kid. Again, I need more of it asap! I want a full couple hour experience that is stuff like this. Super excited if you plan to continue development on this idea because it is worth continuing. Fantastic job!

Thanks for the feedback and for the tip about the ringmod! This was my first time doing any kind of audio manipulation and I'm still very much learning. I was aiming for something like Morgan's suit from Prey 2017 and that ringmod sounds like it'll help me get closer.

All the SFXs are from FilmCow's free audio library. Most of the sounds were used as-is but for the announcement beeps, I combined two of the library's stock beeps and pitch-shifted them slightly. I've always loved the beeps Xerxes makes in System Shock 2 so I was trying to capture that same feeling.

I had to cut a lot of ideas to meet the deadline so there's definitely room to expand in the future if I come back to this project.
