Based on the demo: interesting premise with overcomplicated implementation. A simpler, click-based interface would be way, way better.
I don’t think that a point-and-click interface is boring. That said, there are other options, but they all involve simplifying things - such as 2D side scrolling, or a top down view.
Another overcomplication is to allow items to be thrown anywhere. That sounds like a good idea in theory but in practice it means that the player needs to aim to throw the items in the cauldron or the summoning circle.
