Why?

Because it's buggy as hell, and also because it's the product of the dev throwing a hissyfit over people liking "the funny" and removing it in a rushed update despite promising bigger, better and less frequent updates.

I've listed some of them earlier in the comments. Nothing too game-breaking but still very annoying or detrimental to progress.

is this based on any truth or is everyone parroting that the dev is upset because they're mad they missed the spoiler that this update is not to be taken seriously

The spoiler wasn't even there when this first dropped. Calling people that just wanted the spooky signal bug fixed "special" and releasing a purposefully stripped back version is just mean spirited. Edit: I now realize it's not a "stripped back version" and everything returns to normality after enabling the funny setting. Still think this was unnecessary.

honestly with the type of people that spam comments on this page I can understand the dev being snappy with them and ignoring the friendly-fire, considering this guy is even spamming the whole page with his idea that the dev got ass mad and isn't just pulling everyone's leg

I fully understand that fans/users can be insufferable in the indie/modding space, and I think jabbing back is fine in most cases. All I'm saying is that you have to be careful you don't hit those who just love the game and aren't behaving like that.
