Notes from gameplay:
- Main menu: changing the font and adjusting the borders for the selections would make it look a bit more polished. On the credits page, the black outline on text looks nice
- Wow! Awesome range of settings options
- Unfortunate starting point for the camera in the initial cutscene
- Great job using a cutscene to tell the story instead of just dumping a load of backstory, much more immersive! Near the end, it needs more text or to stop sooner, since it's just silent images
- Good character designs
- Uh oh, where have my friends gone...
- Great job with the tutorial by introducing buttons one by one.
- When sprinting, the right hand looks covered by shadows
- I've found a river. Some creepy things appear to be across the water...
- Whee I'm swimming! I think I started to drown, screen has a red tint to the borders, but don't see a health bar or any indication that I was losing health
- Hmm, says I can climb trees but can't find any with vines!
- Nice ambient and environmental sound effects. Music would punch this up and make it more creepy
- Oof I have to go all the way back to the car for a shovel
- Sprint is nice for faster movement, but there doesn't seem to be any cooldown or downside for using it - why can't I just always travel quicker, in that case?
- Nice area design, good layout with well-chosen environmental assets. I particularly like the fireflies.
- Ooh, I'm in a tree!
- Fishies! And an underwater tunnel! Nice tutorial breadcrumb here from the tree climbing
- Hmm, after going through the underwater tunnel, I seem to have gotten stuck under the world? Can't tell if I'm dead or what, I think I fell through the world
- Would be nice if there was a checkpoint after the intro cutscene so I can skip it easily after dying
- Space/jump should probably be disabled during the intro cutscene, I'm making my guy freak out in the car hehe
- Would be nice to have a meter for breathing time left
- Hard to control angle that I'm swimming at
- Went back from the car and jumped down the mountain trying to shortcut on my 2nd playthrough, ended up at a little lake. Rocks are too steep to climb and I can't seem to swim low enough to get into the tunnel
- Ah, controls setting in menu is very helpful!
- How fast does my swim breath refresh? Feels like I have to keep jumping out of the water to get my breath back after I've been swimming a while. The breathing sound is rather loud/panicky, so it gets tedious hearing it so many times in a row
- Ok, back to graverobbing...
- Ooh animal skull, creepy!
- Nina: We should run! Me: Walks over and looks out across the water to where Nina was looking. I don't see anything.... Me: Turns back to look at Nina - OMG AAAHHH werewolf jump scare got me lol
- Apparently pausing the game saved me? The werewolves are just chilling in the graveyard now, no sign of the one who was attacking me
- Wonder where my friends went... Unsure what to do now. Do I go back to the car?
- Nope, nobody at the car and I guess I don't know how to drive :(
- Need some invisible walls or boundaries when heading backwars from the car, can run back far enough and end up off the map
- Stuck in a canyon. How do I create a checkpoint to restart from? Restarting game again
- Ok this time I followed tracksuit guy as we ran, but fell down a mountain. Now I'm in a valley with a tiny pond, haven't been here before yet. Swam through tunnel, there was a rock blocking the exit, but somehow I got through
- ...only to find a werewolf! I guess they can't swim, got away through the tunnel, but now I'm stuck back in this empty valley. What's the end goal for the story? Is there a place I should be trying to get to?
- Tried to climb on some rocks to get out, now I'm stuck in the terrain. This is the tiny little valley section with the pool which has rocks over the top of it. I seem to have triggered the cut scene dialog somehow, stuck here in the rocks and keep seeing the intro dialog repeat
Overall, I really enjoyed how much work you put into creating a large, explorable environment. I wasn't sure where exactly I was supposed to go once the wolves appeared, but I had fun wandering around and finding hidden areas with the tunnels. You did a great job of selecting the right assets, terrain and map design to create a nice zone for exploration. What an ambitious project! Nice work!
