Ah, I didn't know what android version looks like, playing on PC.

Either way, I can't follow him! He just disappears into the woods too fast. I tried it both with Arvo head over heels into Bjorn and while being dismissive of Bjorn, in case that changes anything. How the hell are you getting this second Klaus event? 0_o

(+1)

so did you follow Klaus before in the same playthrough?

(1 edit)

Okay, I'm retrying this right now and I guess I have never before tried to talk to him during his first event on my Bjorn playthroughs *facepalm*. This seems to be the trigger that allows you to chase after him after supper.  It seemed so pointless after the first time I did it - he runs away after like two lines anyway, how was I supposed to know it changes anything?

Sorry I was suspicious of you.

I really need to spend some time and figure out how to properly butcher renpy games to check for routes without having to go through 358 possible combinations of decisions.

I'll play through the event and get back to you.

cool! im glad for you

but yeah, I didn't get a chance to run after him at first too so i decided to try it out with going after him in the afternoon before

also I'm not sure you can do that routing for devon, but i didn't explore this piece much

btw are you also hyperfixed on this game rn?) being always active on forum for a whole month and all

(1 edit)

Ah, yes, you could say I'm fixated on it - it's currently giving me inspiration for my own projects, plus there seems to be still enough content for me to explore. Like a whole freaking route I didn't even know existed! It even has its own little loading animation, damn! It's so weird to see a new loading screen after having played this for a whole month, and it's not even new content.

So yeah, I checked out both Bjorn and Devon approaches to Klaus's route. Doesn't really change much whichever you choose, but it was nice to see that Devon would look if you disappeared - made me feel better about Arvo following Klaus into a lonely shack in the middle of nowhere. Either way, was nice to get a proper glimpse at Arvo being a massive penis to Mikko with his friends.

Also, I have an answer to your initial question.

I decided to be smart about it - I figured out how to butcher the game and looked into the script. No, there's no way to activate any other actions in that scene. "Run away" is literally the only option coded into the game. Maybe something else is planned, maybe it's just to give you an illusion of taking action - who knows.

Thanks for showing me this route, would have taken me some time before I'd have found it on my own and it wouldn't be any time soon.

wow, running away being the only option sure makes you ask yourself why

uwuu Devon is the best, i love this man (if only he had his own unique arts, because art of him being in a sauna cringes me moderately)

about Arvo being a dick, you mean him obsessing over Klaus literally the whole day and not paying any attention to his new friends? or are you talking just about dialogue option for Mikko? yeah, that was quite unnerving

(1 edit)

I mean the flashback you get after the ritual, Arvo telling his friends to not talk with Mikko without explaining why. You can learn about it from Mikko's route too, but in Klaus's route you can actually re-live that exact moment.

It's sad how little it took for them to abandon Mikko - just "believe me, okay?" was enough. No shit Mikko hightailed out of there and applied to a boarding school.

I wonder what this ritual moment even is - is it metaphorical? Is magic canon? Did Klaus put something into the dish he helped Dan cook? He said with a grin that he cut the tomatoes for it and I've seen people refer to home-made drugs as tomatoes(since tomatoes are the most popular thing to home-grow). No one else was affected, but it could be the bean lottery - Klaus could very well be aware of that tradition, and with his fascination with fate... Yeah, he probably drugged Arvo.

p.s. I too am not amused with some of the special artworks for this VN. I'd rather prefer if all artwork was done by HQ - their works really look like windows into the world of Dawn Chorus and not just fancy paintings. The simple picture of Arvo looking at himself in the mirror has more weight than any other art in a different visual style, IMO.

(1 edit) (+1)

I agree about picture in the mirror, no, more accurately, I AGREE

it's amazing and I look at it for a minute straight every time playing (if you are rooting for Bjorn it becomes funny, though, because of the text 'anime, huh?')

i personally don't think Klaus drugged him. 1) it was Dan who said the phrase about tomatoes (if i remember it correctly) 2) there was a pov of Klaus and no sign of it there 3) then why did Klaus drug only him and how

and it's not like Arvo experienced what Klaus expected from this ritual. Arvo was reliving his regretful behavior back in the middle school being in a trance state. Well, maybe we can interpret this as him seeing a ghost of his past. So i don't think there is any hottake about magic itself

also we do not know how close to the true story this vision was. in his dream about the big floof an image of Mikko saying "you don't need to pretend like you care about me" basically haunted him

I think that Klaus' route may be a lot about Arvo recollecting his story with mikko, which has traumatized them both, not only Mikko. i didn't take a route for Mikko yet, but it seemed to me like Arvo still hasn't processed their past, so Klaus' route may be a great opportunity to do it on his own

Like i said earlier,i don't think Arvo was drugged and it was more of his own thing. Rather, i contemplate even more now about Arvo as the mc, his dreams and other visions. the more i play dawn chorus the more i cannot draw a line between author's ways to immerse us into character and uniqueness of Arvo. over time i lean towards the second more and more, maybe Arvo has some type of hypersensitivity, coming derealizations or even psychological condition. because that's some abnormal process of cognition from the start

the fact that all the other characters leave a huge impact on his subconscious is certain, even though we are the only ones who remember all of his dreams possible

but it's most likely my own fantasy. with all due respect to the author there are always gaps in narrative which we can fill with our own ideas and connections

Yeah, no, I'm half-joking about Arvo getting drugged, of course - it's obviously just a narration method, like it always is with Dawn Chorus. Like you said, Arvo already dreamed up a whole nightmare, no reason why he couldn't dream up this too - this is the route of the unreliable narrator more than anything.

But it is fun to come up with theories of what's happening, don't you think? And it kind of aligns? Klaus is an irresponsible person who does whatever childish thing he wants with the smallest amount of justification even to himself, as you can learn from his and other routes, especially Jorgen's.

Onto your points!

1) it was definitely Klaus who said he cut the tomatoes - I wrote that comment while looking at the script.

2) Such details are barely ever shown in Dawn Chorus, the text is doing the heavy lifting, and the visuals are vaguely connected to the plot at best. This is not a big project, so it can get away with this.

3) I told you, bean lottery - look it up if you've never heard of it. Klaus could put an edible in the dish and whoever gets it goes on a trip! Or maybe he put it just in Arvo's plate, not like Arvo is extremely attentive, had his key stolen and then returned without ever noticing.

Also, I think we should put this discussion on hold till you see all three Mikko endings, as I realized the Big Floof nightmare is one big metaphor for Arvo's feelings for Mikko.
