Also, I've notice the story events outpace the girls' events. I have plenty of events left but I'm at the end of the story so I can't continue. Is this by design?
Yes, and one of the bigger faults of the game as there's not enough time to go through all girls and all storylines. Pick 3 or 4 and stick with them or you will run out of time.
