The Main Quest item in the inventory vanishes after reaching your dorm room in the beginning. Even when the tutorial tells you to check your bag for more info on the main quest later, there's still nothing there to check.

In summary, the first day of the game is the tutorial and on that day I did not update the "main quest" item in the inventory, I don't remember if I didn't do it because I didn't want to or because I forgot. Once you finish the tutorial, you will always have the item in your inventory explaining what you have to do.
