My bad, so the second part is not in the lab? the only things to interact with that I see are the info panel, oxygen capsule, & the incubator.
you're just supposed to stuff the spores into the oxygen container to spread it around the ship
maybe it's a bug then, the only option it shows me with the oxygen container is to examine it even after the spores are extracted
