I definitely get what you mean, I went back and forth on having more control. I really wanted to keep things pure, but with how chaotic the physics can get it probably would have been nice to have a leaning mechanic or something similar. By the time I was warming up to the idea, though, it was pretty late in the jam and there were other things I wanted to include more. If I revisit this in the future though, I’ll definitely look into both how to achieve more deterministic physics and, if that still doesn’t do the trick, adding some player control during the actual ride.
