But what about hiding spots and a monster that lives in them? Hiding spots could be an overturned desks for school, boxes for the basement of school and broken boxes for sewer and the forested part of the game. Not all areas need hiding spots just some.

Also if you get audio based enemies the hiding spots could be used really well for those.

I have thought about hiding points, but I can't think of how to add them to the game, so I haven't done so yet. ヾ(•ω•`)o

A way to start it could be a locker big enough to hold a person or two and use it's code for the other hiding spots, but you could use the locker concept as one of three hiding spots. The other hiding spots could be lockers, crates and in the shadows.  Two of the three could be a new enemy type called the mimic that can only attack if interacted with.
