Agreed. Perhaps blue for clockwise and red for counterclockwise.

Disagree. If you've watched TENET, red means forward time (in this case it's gonna be clockwise) and blue means backward time (in this case it's gonna be counterclockwise). Look at YT's play button – it's red; and usually rewind effects are associated with blue.

I don’t think the color would really matter as long as they’re different, but your proposal could work, too.
