I don't think you have anything to worry about, I think there will always be a demand for great pixel art. :)
Since the rise of indie games, I think its always going to be a fixture in one way or another.

I'm Japanese, but apparently Pixel Art seems to have a stable citizenship, especially in foreign indie games.
