I finished the game ! I really like it. It was clutch that you respawn at the last beach shore, otherwise it would have taken forever to finish.
Yeah, I wanted the drowning to feel tense, but not punishing. I assumed people would drown 5-15 times, and I didn't want it to feel like a pain every time.
