In case you're still interested, I fixed the bug

In case you're still interested, it has been fixed.  Actually tested it this time

Well, I think you need to be ambitious about something during a game jam.  These are perfect times to try something that you might normally not take the time to do.  That's why I join them once and a while.  Gives you a deadline to try something.  Otherwise I'd never make anything ;)

Thank you!  Wanted it to be simple so a kid can play it.  Left, right, jump.  That's it ;)

Sorry about that.  The dino-riding part was my kid's idea, and is the best part.  I promise to have that fixed after voting ends.  Please try it again then.  I promise it will be worth the wait ;)

I can't figure out why I decided to change the pineapple the night before and didn't bother to run through it again.  Never assume your fix actually fixes it :D  Thanks for playing.  I'll have it fixed after voting ends.  Please try it again.  The second half is much better ;)

Thanks for trying.  Will have that bug fixed after voting ends.  I'm embarrassed.  Tested it a million times...then wrecked it last-minute :D

Sorry.  Last minute game-breaking "fix" :D  Will have that updated right after voting ends.

Oh No.  Sorry about the pineapple bug.  Something must have happened in my last build :(  Will update after the Jam.  Sorry about that.  Please try it afterwards.  I swear that was the best part :D

Much like tafode, I couldn't get it to work on PC or Mac.  Just wouldn't recognize my camera on either laptop.

His suggestion for using the phone was good though.  At least I was able to get it started...but tried several times and lost pretty much instantly.  Pack of little dinos moved maybe a few pixels when I was leaning as far as possible...and all got crushed in one go.  (probably the screen size didn't help me much)

Really ambitious trying motion controls though.  I don't think I could do it :)

The title screen was a great start.  I loved that.

The game controls are a little difficult though.  I had a hard time with slopes and jumping.  For example, I was stuck in the first "hole" in the tutorial and kept sliding back in.  Or jumping from a slope was a momentum-killer.

The animation is great.  The shadow effect behind the bushes was a nice touch too.

I played for 2.5 minutes before being rudely interrupted by children and didn't encounter any other dinos.  But I have to say...it was enjoyable just eating, drinking, and exploring.  Just living life as a little dinosaur.  Kinda relaxing.  I'll give it another go later to see how long I last

Played on phone, which is probably the way to go.  Enjoyable and simple to figure out.  Everything was responsive and polished.  Got 7K score...but I might have been lucky because I kept doing worse on each playthrough ;)

Only thing I would suggest would be to have an obstacle that REQUIRES the sliding.  For the rocks you can slide under, you can just as well just hop over them.  I tried to treat them as slide-only and it makes it more challenging for sure.

Good work

So I tried the game and have a few suggestions on how it could be improved.

The first time I played, I got destroyed.  Wasn't even close.  Second time, I defeated 2 guys and it was satisfying.  On the "fight screen" where it shows the hp of you and the enemy, I think it might be good to give a little more information there.  Maybe have the player on one side, and the enemy on the other.  And if there are any background stats (like attack, defense, etc), display those so I know if I should run away or stand to fight.

Oh...and when I went to the town and selected Temple, it crashed :(  I assumed it was supposed ot heal you maybe?  Maybe a little message on what that does would help

Music is great, btw.  Game was enjoyable once I started actually winning fights ;)

So sorry dude.  I thought I had a week to rate games.  Didn't realize it was over already :(

I'll play it anyway and give some feedback

I hear ya.  Initial idea was to have creatures that avoid you, until you find the right food they like.  Punching and kicking mean critters.  Realized toward the end of the jam that I have no idea how to do enemies :D  That'll be my goal for the next jam

Thanks for trying it!

I feel like this needs some more depth.  Everything on the right side of the page seems unnecessary/unrelated to the gameplay itself.  Or maybe I missed something.

Maybe include currency, energy levels, materials or something that needs to be balanced.  Otherwise it's just blackjack with a story attached to it

HOWEVER... if this is meant to be geared towards kids, the gameplay is perfectly fine then.  In that case I would spend time on art.  Some early kid games are super basic and this would actually work well for that as long as there is something cute, fun, flashy for them to look at

Got a chance to play it.  Pretty fun once I figured out the rules

I was a little unclear as to whether you get +1 reputation every turn for the Cafe or if it was a one-time boost (I think it's one-time, or probably should be if it isn't)

I had to use scratch paper to keep track of my maint costs and income.  I think you could remove the extra instructions on the Dinoplot sheet and allow for some space for notes.  (I have a bad memory so I had to keep counting the maintenance costs...eventually just wrote it in the margin)

Good job, I enjoyed it

"technically pterosaurs are not dinosaurs"

Haha.  Not many people know that!

One issue my kids noticed, if you lose (health goes to zero) and you try to play again, it seems the health doesn't actually reset.  So you get hit once and it goes to -1.  Try again, hit once and -2 and so on.

Other than that I like the look of this game.  Good controls.  Really liked the mom pterosaur clearing the way for her baby.  Super cute characters

Thanks but I'm not sure my textures are blurry enough, to be honest :D

Maybe when the game jam rating period is over I'll add more diverse obstacles.

I believe someone already mentioned how the ground controls are too sensitive.  I agree that the flying and rolling controls are much better

Otherwise very fun.  Knocking out the scientists is very silly and satisfying

Thanks for posting concept art.  Always interesting to see how these things take form!

The presentation is great.  The map, level intro, etc were all really good.

Got the hang of flying which was fun, but trying to hold the egg while flapping was just frustrating and ruined it for me.  If the meter for the egg were to be removed, it might be more approachable and fun in my opinion

I'll try to play this soon, but even just the layout of the instructions and the game board/sheet is soooo professional looking.  That itself is hard to do right

Would be nice (if you continue to work on this) to have a main menu/start screen to go back to when you win or lose.  Maybe add some sound and do a little more with the graphics.  Have your kid record a few sounds...I think it would go great with it.

Though I don't like tower defense games generally, this is pretty well made and it shows.  The unit stuff works well.  Commanding the units (especially when you have dozens) is pretty satisfying

Laughed when I first launched him out of the cannon :D

Simple controls made this accessible to my kids.  They loved it too

I know art isn't the focus here, but flipping the sprite when you move left would help.  All the other graphics are fine for what the game is.

Really fun to play

Art is great.  I couldn't finish a race because my fingers were killing me 1/3 of the way through.  I get you're trying something unique, but a more approachable control would be nice.  My kids really wanted to try this, but couldn't grasp the controls unfortunately.

Really polished though

My 5 year old loved it.  Thought it was just about building a robot-shaped space ship...but then the flying part happened.  Giggles.

This was awesome!

I think having a ground texture would have really helped.  It made it feel super slow, not seeing how fast you're moving.  Even so, it took forever to get anywhere

Did notice the music kinda changed when I rolled up the volcano.  That was neat

It was nerve-wracking, trying to type the right key in the later levels...but in a good way

Maybe it was just me, but there wasn't anything to raise the score.  Max score said NaN.  Not sure how CTS_Makto got 920.  I could just go straight up, or off screen.

Having said that, the dinosaur is adorable

Great art and animation.  Wasn't thrilled about controlling a clinically depressed rabbit...but I'm glad it turned around and he ended up spending time around others.  (I liked the firefly mini game the best)

Yeah, I noticed that too.  They pick a random direction and random distance to walk before repeating.  I'm not sure how to make them "smarter".  Might have to do some AI research ;)

Had no idea what I was supposed to do.  Level kept restarting despite not letting my finger off the arrow key.  Felt like it would restart at random.  I'm sure there's some reason to it.

I liked the music and graphics though.  Reminds me of being a kid, playing old PC games

Had a hard time with the dashing.  Seemed to go off when I didn't want it to (just trying to jump and change directions mid-air).  I feel like a separate button that dashes in the direction you're facing would be better than the arrow keys

Should have been arrested for chopping down trees in the middle of town

I'm impressed by how much you crammed in here.  Mini games, pushing blocks, quests.  Only thing I would have liked was a reminder for the mini games on what the objective was.  I was trying to jump on crows before thinking to avoid them and look for the scarecrow, for example.  I have a terrible memory

Could use some colliders in the fog at the edges of the level so I don't run past them.  And you can walk through the houses as well.

I love the look with the film grain and the colors.  Very soothing/calming.  Did you create the models?  Very nice

Will try this again when you update it with the crafting (I hope you are!)

I like the idea of trying to cram as much as possible before having to go somewhere (story of my life)

Struggled with leaving certain areas though.  For example, looking at records...I couldn't stop and go back to the room.  Same with the closet.  I liked the album covers, btw

And does that poor dog only have 1 ear?
