Thank you so much! That's exactly what we were going for, we really appreciate the kind words. Stay tuned, our next comes out in a few weeks!

Happy birthday!

This has mythological creatures in it, and quite a bit of odd and bizarre "folklore" in it that I've created myself... I've named the genre "American Gothic Weed Comedy". Strange right? You'll see what I mean, I hope.

Enjoy!

PG-13 CONTENT. Unlike our adult MHU content, Millennial Tales... OF THE CITY! is intended for most audiences. Inside you'll find:

 - LANGUAGE

 - LIGHT MENTIONS OF MARIJUANA USAGE

Anthro level 4. I have a "Cheetara"-like character in the game.

I believe this 2-parter fits the theme of discovery because without going into spoilers, there's an under-girding sort of "hero's journey" secondary narrative throughout the piece wherein one of the characters gets their shit together, steps up, and answers the call to adventure after initially rejecting it. Enjoy!

I set out to make an "American Gothic Weed Comedy", and I believe I succeeded. I believe it's appropriate for this jame because a "Gothic" is by it's nature a form of myth, but also because the webcomics I make have a built- mythology to them as a result of years of lore-building. This particular 2-part episode sets a lot of he in-universe mythology, inside you'll find two stoner buddies that high and go on bizarre, nostalgia-fueled adventures with their buddies... and in this episode, they join a lucha libre competition to save their friend's dad's after school break dancing program. In the process, they will have to wrestle harpies and leprechaun princes, naga princesses and cat ladies... etc. It get's weird, but we're definitely making a legend. I hope you all enjoy!

There's no specific "Lynchian references", but I think my game is pretty weird lol. I guess that's relative. Maybe ya'll can tell me if you find a specific Lynch in here. It's a two-parter, this is part 1. I do honestly and in good faith feel like the work embodies that uncompromising attitude toward the execution of the art form he was known for, especially since the decision we made to go "adult" with the work opened some doors for us but closed a lot more, at least conventionally. We can't enter most jams, etc, and exposure to audiences is necessarily and correctly limited. Still, we've never regrated the decision, since we want to tell an "American Gothic Buddy Comedy" about to pals that smoke weed and go on bizarre adventures with their friends (and occasionally see a boob along the way) that I cook up after I myself have smoked up a bit. You'll see what I mean, I think. And to be fair, I DO have body horror in this so...

What a fun, quirky little game! I loved it, solid attention to sound/ambience and great use of branched-narrative structure, look forward to seeing more!

Thank you so much! I'll let my artist know, he loves hearing this stuff!

This means a lot to me, thank you so much. If you like this one I have another one in the same "webcomic"/short form VN, and a more interactive gamebook (same characters but much different artwork, and the setting tone was less adult when i made that) where  you get to interact with the characters as their new roommate and do attribute checks, it's more of an RPG.

yes the windows version  always plays better, but no  one ever wants to download anything.  It's the animations that do it, and some of visual tricks like the interruption thing also can cause a bit of a stutter over the itch platform. I'll upload  the windows and mac version tonight, thank you for the advice

This game is FOR ADULTS (18+). It contains no nudity, but does contain:

- a lot of marijuana usage and the glorification of it, including a minigame inviting the player to participate (this is optional and has no effect on gameplay)

- coarse and lewd language

- adult situations

In addition, there is one scene with a strobing effect. While I can't be sure, there is always an outside chance this might affect people that are epilleptically sensitive to that sort of thing. It's clearly marked in the game when this is going to happen.

"The Ridin' High!": Play This Banger Whilst Partaking

The Reason:

Amazing level design, hat's fuckin' off, one coder to another... getting that much output from under the hood with such limited resources demands a "hard 'R'" respect. Beyond that and fanboying aside, gameplay is fun and rewarding, given the interplay between frenetic (often desperate) action and the other "sense elements", like the love given the sprites, and the care evident in the music and sound. It's pretty obvious a lot of heart went into every element of this. Getting that first sword really has that feeling reminiscent of when pac-man gets a power up and the hunter suddenly becomes the hunted. Love the music to, really sets the appropriate tone for the spooky feel of the game... sfx are crisp n' fuckable. I took a tasty, almost kingly rip off the g-bong last night and zoned out for an hour. Ya boy is no lightweight, so that's pretty rare. That's why this gets a Ride-y award.

Thank you! And thank you for hosting me and getting my work out there.

Thank you! And thanks for the understanding and the follow. I didnt *exactly* learn to code with python for this, I had been using it in a prior life for API integrations for a long time, but this was certainly the first time I've made a game with it and there was a pretty steep learning curve. Keep reading, we've learned a lot from this process and the next one is going to incorporate and build on everything we did here and so much more.

Rob

I noticed him down there, seems like he's a fan. Glad he brought you along for the ride! Keep reading, there's more to come.

Thank you! Always nice hear from a fan. Keep up the writing practice, you'll get there bud. Happy you liked the effects! Maybe consider changing your handle tho, it's a little disrespectful to the community.

Rob

Thank you! Flattery will get you everywhere. We've got another coming in Halloween, stay tuned.

Thank you! It was a pleasure to make, glad you enjoyed it. Be on the lookout for the next this Halloween.

Finally releasing the game to the public. A few quick things:

  • I've taken a lot of the beta feedback to heart and implemented the ideas during the soft release. I went back in and tweaked a bunch of the audio, added some new background music, etc.
  • I'm having massive issues getting the game to play appropriately on itch's nested web player, particularly the audio. The opening video also does not play. In addition, I don't want to encourage people to play this on mobile using the web player, since that ruins the experience. Until I can get at least the audio worked out, I won't be offering the book on the web player as an option. As of now, this is only available for download on mac and pc.
