I saw the AI can be male, and somehow missed that on my first playthrough. Is it hidden or dialogue based?

Honestly, the bad ends weren't a big deal, it was just so weird that his wife and daughter had to die. Could have easily just turned them against him, or made them hate him, to further break him. Or just have them escape. The fifth end then just took it too far for me to enjoy. Great art and ideas, just a bit ruined by the wife, daughter stuff. 

The art is amazing, but the wife and daughter/killing stuff was a real mood killer.
