In the same boat with artfight lmao.  I've also just had massive writer's block recently. Was shambling something together before I saw this announcement lmao.

UPDATE: I changed it again to add another slider. I added another hotbar in the screens.rpy file in the middle of the other two and adjusted the images to match. I made a "sound volume" section and three bars underneath with small headers with music, sfx, or voice. Below is what I did. You can do something similar in your game if you need all three bars :D

The way I'm doing this for my game is editing the menu images to have a voice slider instead of a sound slider (cause my game doesn't have SFX) and replacing the sound slider in the screens.rpy file with voice. You might be able to figure out a different solution if you need to have SFX as well but this is just what I'm doing. But you can think up your own solution, programming is all about problem solving :>

Gonna add a blank version of the prefs menu in case you or anyone needs to use it (i made it by copying the texture and covering the text lmao). I know this post is old but wanted to share in case anyone had the same question as you.

I was just wondering what games other people are planning to fix for this jam! I plan on fixing "Ace in Another World" to start, because I am ace and the concept seems fun. I have my work cut out for me getting the fantasy assets tho ;-;

As an ace myself, this game is amazing. I plan on fixing it for the Fixit jam.

Glad I could indirectly help! It's the same image that's used for the intermission iirc

That's the goal! Also thank you! My friend offered to help VA and I was surprised because this game is so bad but we had fun doing the lines

Thank you!

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!

Thank you, I'm really glad you liked it! Yeah, this had to be a shorter game to fit the jam, but I'm glad you liked the story!

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the game! You have Ren'py to thank for most of the quality of life features :)

I wanted to keep things simple for this game, but I do plan to have branching stories in future games I make!

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it! This game is a kinetic visual novel which is why there aren't any options, but I do plan to have proper visual novels with choices in the future! I just wanted to keep things simple for this jam. :)

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed!

I have at least one question!

For this jam, can we submit multiple games of multiple fixed projects? Mainly asking because if this jam has fewer participants than the Worst VN Jam has games that allowed fixing, I want more people to be able to have their games fixed!

Also, what exactly do you mean "exquisite corpse" and "build upon the framework?" Should the games be like a sequel of the original game or a more fleshed out version of the game or will it depend on the game? How much change is too much change? And I know you said it's not a hard rule but I wanna be able to understand what you mean by it.

Thank you for your feedback! I'm glad you liked the game!

It is truly astounding how someone managed to make a game this terribly infuriating. When I started this game, I had so much hope in my eyes. I was excited to see what this game had in store for me. It is now 2 am. It has been hours. I think I almost contracted carpal tunnel from spam-clicking through the entirety of pride and prejudice. I could have spent the time I used completing this game towards any other purpose. Quite literally any other purpose. And I would be a better person. This game is something I would only give to my worst enemies. If this is not the worst visual novel ever, I cannot comprehend the beast that title must belong to.

Also I finished the puzzle.

Thank you for the insight! I use Opera on my laptop so that could be it. I'll look at the engine's website to see if I can ask anyone as well.

And I'm glad you liked the game! Thank you for playing!

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the FishFest logo! The UI does have a lot of buttons, I used a premade pack but I will think about how intuitive and easy to use the UI is for the next game I make. I'm glad you liked the game!

Thank you! I'm glad you liked my """"minigame"""". I also wasn't happy with the music resetting each scene, but without doing that I didn't know how to make sure the game would play the right music each scene, especially for the ending replay. I'll look into it more and see if I can find a less annoying solution for the next game I make. It was hard to develop the characters simply due to the fact I had a week to make the game and therefore needed a very short script, but I am considering developing them more and making another game in the same universe (DON'T COUNT ON IT LIKE AT ALL). I'm glad you appreciated the FishFest logo, and I'm glad you liked the game!

Thank you!

I'm sorry for these issues, I also don't know what's going on with that. My guess is it could be something to do with the engine? It handles all of the exporting on it's own, and I also had a similar issue with playing a different test game I made with this engine. It's a pretty niche engine so it's possible? I will look into other things as well.

Do you think it could be something to do with how I compress the .zip files? I just take the export folder and compress it with like the default windows function to compress the .zip file.

If you have any other potential explanations, let me know! I want to figure this out too!

(edit: something else to note is that an indicator to know if the menu is done loading is if the music starts. if it's started, the menu is done loading and should be clickable. just wanted to note in case it's relevant)

Thank you for the clarification, and I'm glad you liked the story. I will keep that in mind

Thank you! I'm honored you decided to make a video on my game! I will check it out now

If you have issues with the skip button you could phrase them in a kinder and more constructive way. I do want to improve for any future games I make but what you said tells me nothing about how to fix your issue and it's also very rude.

I also did not make the UI, I used a premade UI pack from the engine I used to save time. So I did not have any part in actually making the skip button. I will take any criticisms of the skip button into consideration but for this game I cannot fix it.

Thank you! Glad you liked it!

Thank you!

Sorry about that, it might be because your device has trouble running it? I know my laptop can't handle this game cause it's really underpowered but it works fine on my phone. If you have a Windows device you could also use the download!

I'm glad you liked the game, yes that is a skip button. I'm glad you were able to learn an important life lesson from your experience with the skip button. I used a pre-made UI pack but maybe next time I'll choose a pack that has everything labeled more clearly XD

Thank you!

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!

Thank you!

This game was very impressive and unique. The visuals were outstanding and the tutorial screen was straightforward and effective. The biggest hurdle was the literal hurdle in the middle of the first level. Took my like 10 minutes to get over it.

Really creative! The gameplay is simple but effective. Easy to pick up, hard to master. All that stuff. Or maybe it's just hard to master because I'm bad at platformers but yk what i mean maybe.

I liked the tutorial with the voiceover. It was a pleasant surprise! And the tutorial itself was well-paced and made sure the player knew all the controls. (Even if the player could not use them well.)

This is a really fun and unique game! I liked dressing up the different fish. It's a game that brings simple joy.

The Whale Shark is my favorite.

Glad you enjoyed the game! I apologize for the disappointment by the lack of fish unfortunately they're very camera-shy but rest assured they are there out of frame

(i didn't feel like drawing any actual fish for something like the """"minigame"""" lmao. but i do have my cartoon fishies in the menus and stuff!)

Yeah, that was intentional! The kanji I used for the names aren't the same but I made them homophones. Glad you noticed!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed! I used TyranoBuilder to make this. I'll definitely check out your game when I get a chance!

Thank you!

Thank you! And thanks for making the sprites!

First of all, love the energy of this jam. I hope you can get all the fish-related games you missed out on from that bundle of no fish.

Now, my questions:

  • Can I create a visual novel in TyranoBuilder (a codeless VN engine) for this because me no code code hard
  • Could I not use fish as like the actual characters but just a central part of the narrative (ex. a story about fishermen) because I honestly don't wanna have to draw fish sprites and I'd be doing this myself so I'd want to use free-to-use premade sprites most likely
  • In the event the answer to the question above is "no" could I start on the fish sprites now and would I need to disclose that
  • Same thing as above with the concept and outline

FISH

Also if I need to code I can and will make a Scratch game
