Game is very much alive.

That's the end of the current content.

Thank you, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Working on the update every spare moment I get!

(1 edit)

Thanks for saying so.

As for the lewd, I've said this a bunch on discord, but I pretty much developed the first version of UA in a complete bubble. I had no if people would even play it, let alone enjoy it. I felt like if I didn't include some sort of lewd scene, I'd be hamstringing whatever potential the game may have had.

So, yeah. You're not wrong. It's out of place, and while I think it would probably be fine down the road for these characters, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense where it's at. I'll probably remove it in some future update after I've added more sexual content, but for now it stays since there's really not much else on that front at the moment. And aside from how it comes out of nowhere, most of the feedback on it has been otherwise positive.

I'll have you know Lindsey is a very proud twenty-year-old grandmother of three, and nobody can take that from her.

A few people have had this problem. So far, seems to be universally be a graphics driver issue. Try updating and/or rolling back.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. The Android port is working on my phone, so honestly I really have no idea what I could do to help solve that issue. Nobody else has reported crashing, and I'm not even sure how you'd access the crash logs for the Android version to figure out what the problem is.

My understanding of Ren'Py on Android is that it's kind of jank, so my ultimate (unhelpful) recommendation would be to play on PC if at all possible, or maybe bring your problem to the discord so someone more knowledgeable about Android might be able to help.

All (or at least most) of the music credits are in the About menu located on the main menu!

The title music is called A Place I Know by Cullah.

Yep, 0.3 is available for early access on Android, PC, and Mac!

Could you elaborate? 0.2 is still available for download, as far as I can tell.

Just me! I do have a beta tester team, but they were mostly chosen from people who've been active on discord for a bit. Feel free to join up if that's your jam.

Thanks for the kind words! Next update is hopefully coming soon. It's already as big as 0.1 and 0.2, but I'm not quite satisfied with it yet, so I'm gonna let it cook a bit longer.

I'll be testing android when the next update is ready for testing. There will be some 4k videos that I'm not sure are going to play well with android OS, but if that doesn't work I'll probably look into just converting them to a lower resolution.

Basically, it's in the works but it won't be ready until the next update (hopefully soon). As for joiplay compatibility, I couldn't tell you as it's the first I've heard of it, sorry!

Thanks! Working on the next update as much and as often as I can.

Rest assured, updates are on the way. Welcome to the community!

Hmm, I just tested it and it still brings up the proper invite for me. Is this the link that's not working for you?

Thank you! That's very kind of you to say. I've been playing VNs for a decade or more, so the medium holds a special place in my heart.

(Apparently, I drafted this comment 8ish days ago and forgot to click reply. Yikes.)

Ah, sorry! I forgot Ren'Py archives the files by default. You can google a tool to unpack them or wait for the version update. The good news is I've been working on it every chance I get, so it shouldn't be that much longer. The possibly bad news is it's definitely going to require a new save anyway, mostly because I had no idea what would or wouldn't break save compatibility when I started making this thing. Oops.

Thanks for the offer! I had a few awesome others offer me some help too, so I'm happy to say the Discord is now alive.

Hey, this is good stuff and you've given me quite a bit to think about. Thank you. I definitely lean closer to "not wanting to deal with social media stuff, just let me make the game lol" on the spectrum, but I recognize it's a necessary evil these days if I want to get some kind of return for the effort that goes into making a project like this.

I agree about not throwing money at someone who's yet to prove themselves as a dev, which is why I'm primarily focused on the game rather than the other stuff. I figure if someone wants to support me, it's going to be because the product doesn't suck rather than some fancy ad campaign or how often I post stuff on social media, but I'll admit I'm a novice in this arena, so what do I know.

Sorry! It's a known issue--I messed up a line in the code. It'll be fixed in the next update, but if you want to fix it yourself, you can open "options.rpy" and add the line:

define config.save_directory = "UnravelingAugust-1652052172"

Good call! I was thinking it might be best to split those two myself. Appreciate it, and let me know if you've got any other ideas for the Patreon. It's probably pretty obvious, but I'm super new to the platform. (This goes for everyone, if you've got good ideas I'd love to hear them.)
Current Patreon todo list:
1. Flesh out the tiers with more benefits (probably keeping it relatively simple for now, since making the game is already taxing enough as a new dev lol)
2. Add discord integration. Been dragging my feet on making a discord since there isn't a whole lot of content atm, which I would imagine translates into not a whole lot of discussion to be had (maybe I'm wrong about this?)
3. Potentially adding some custom art stuff for the tiers

I've been thinking about what to do with those, and that's a good idea!

Thanks! Patreon account is still under review, unfortunately, which I believe is why the link isn't working. Fingers crossed it comes through soon.

Not yet. Soon, probably.

Yep. Just having a bit of fun. There won't be too many situations where that kind of 4th wall breaking nonsense happens, but it happened accidentally when I was making it and I thought it was funny so I left it in.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah, it was originally going to be in this update but I decided to rework a good chunk of the scene right before I uploaded the first release (after I already had the images uploaded and whatnot.) It's mostly done, just needs a bit of tweaking. It'll be in v0.2.

Thanks for checking out my game!

Unraveling August
is a visual novel about love, life, and mystery.

Version 0.1 is primarily about establishing some of the main characters (The Protagonist, Sam, and Lily for the most part) and a few sexy scenes. It doesn't delve too much into the grand plot of the game, which means there's a hell of a lot of content to come.

The Plan:
Version 0.1 of the game will be releasing free to everyone. It has 360 4k HD renders and about 10,000 words of content. That's about 30m to 1hr of content depending on your reading speed.
Version 0.2 and beyond are cooking and will be up for early access in the near future.
It hasn't been decided how long that early access period will be, but likely somewhere between 2-4 weeks, with possible earlier access for higher tiers. Updates will be around the same size as 0.1 for awhile to facilitate faster releases and generate an audience for the game. The current plan is to switch to larger releases once the game has a decent bit of content to keep a new player engaged, perhaps quarterly or even bi-yearly depending on the size of the updates.
