No ❤️

Tempted to make a "full" version (probably not on Steam though) but I think I'm more likely to take everything I've learned about server-side/networking and make something else equally small and inconsequential.

Really fun. I'm rooting for you.

Excellent!

Oops

Thank you so much! I actually do have a leaderboard ready to implement, I just never got round to it.

Having said that, it's telling me that the longest a given artifact has been hidden is only 5 days / 133 hours. Which sounds short considering how little people are playing it. I honestly though it would have been lying dormant for weeks by now, although I guess it only takes one guy a week to find it.

Once the flower has grown completely, it's chopped down and a new one is planted in it's place. So 5k have been planted and grown only in the small handful of beds you can see.

❤️

Kind of. A few messages still come in every couple of days.

Yis

Low key hope this wins.

Each player starts in one of 4 different spawn points, so you'll probably have to track down the footprints by exploring the map a little bit first.

I realise it's slow, so thank you for sticking it out and trying it out - more than once!

Keeping things obtuse works well with some stuff, but I agree certain mechanics need to be telegraphed more clearly.

Super fun and feels great. Nice palette shift choices too.

Feels great to play.

Really great!

Scratch that. Got it working.

Sadly the WebGL build doesn't mix well with the server-side stuff.

Hot tips, because the game doesn't make it terribly clear:

  • The trails are actual previous players. Follow in their footsteps.
  • There's a day and night cycle. You'll have about 3 days to do everything.
  • Approach/attack zombies when they're not moving
  • Guys in the black cloaks are pointing at something
  • Dig 2/3 times to unearth something
  • When you can, hold Space/Z  to plant something
    • You'll only get one shot at it

I definitely wouldn't worry about this. I don't think anyone even has the ability to police the genesis date of an idea.

As long as it fits the themes, I'd chalk it up to a happy coincidence that they match.

Apologies! I seldom check my gamedev email these days. I'll remember my password and respond!

Apologies. A lot of the email to that inbox ends up hiding in spam. I'll respond shortly.

🖕😘

Thank you so much! I'll add this to the next patch.

Please stay safe.

Apologies. The more people that die, the harder the game is going to be to run. It wasn't really optimized for hundred and thousands of graves.

If it gets to the point where none of us can run it anymore, I'll either refactor some things or just take the game down.

Trouble connecting? Please make sure you're using the current available build of the game (v1.0).

Okay, so the changes that were made have been reverted. I've put v1.0 back up for download.

Space bar!

Very nice work! <3

Weird! The game just stops dead?

What OS are you running?

its a nice thought, but this isn't the case.

Just drag your boat across the screen and the game will continue.

it's not! Apologies.

Which OS are you on?

I try to avoid justifying myself, but this is a great take - and far more eloquent than I could ever put it.

I'm not precious over the nomenclature. If this doesn't tick all the boxes to qualify it as a "game", then so be it.

It is however, something. It exists.

Thank you so much!

That actually sounds like a bug. I haven't really seen anyone else mention it, but I've experienced it myself yesterday. Definitely going to be looking into this.

EDIT: This is potentially fixed now. Download the newest build from the downloads page and give me a shout if you're still having issues.

Evening!

The Things We Lost In The Flood is a relaxed, experimental game where you float around and read/write  messages from/to other players!

Press: Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

  • Explore the downpour by sailing through a flooded world and building your little boat as you go.
  • Write a message in a bottle to other players about anything. Tell a story, share a secret, try to help a player or even harm them.
  • Read other player's messages and choose whether to throw it back into the ocean or destroy it forever.
  • End the world.

If it isn't too touchy a subject, I'd be interested in hearing you elaborate on that a little bit. Happy to go to DMs.

Crud. I'll have to do some digging.
