dont mind me just putting this here so there's some discoverability and also a bit of pressure so that i actually get it done as i go through and add stuff and can receive feedback, its not fully finished at all but i am and will be working on it until the end of the jam

You're welcome! always happy to lend a hand

On a more sad note I ended up turning the project in to a school assignment meant to be a solo learning thing for a lot of different skills (I'm scrapping together like 3d modelling, 2d hand drawn animation, programming, story telling/narrative writing, etc.) But I'm more than happy if you want to work on another game/jam together! I believe you already have my discord/insta somewhere, so please don't hesitate to reach out!

Thanks again and sorry for the disappointment. qwq

Hey there! I'm wondering if you'd be interested in working on the insanity that is this concept? Also, it doesn't matter your skill at drawing! tbh i suck too, and at this point the project won't be something over the top, just like practically an exercise in networking with others for projects and working as a team, still doesn't mean we can't polish the project up! I also wanted to point out that character creation is a really good skill to transfer over to digital drawing! visualization of the finished project so you know where to start and go is a really big help, and you can also use the 3d models as study material to learn proportions and or make life easier on yourself by working with a base! Programs like clip studio paint so have 3d models you can interact with and manipulate, so it's a common practice! Also don't worry about the thought of that being a shortcut, using references of already existing models/art is a thing everyone does! Anyways shoot me a message on discord if you're interested, my username is the same as my profile URL! Also a little extra note: rough drafting is fine lel, it will probably also be encouraged just to bundle everything together before polishing everything up, so don't worry about perfectionism!

Hey, if you want to work collaboratively on figuring out this insane concept of a story i posted in the forums earlier then that would be great! I'm also working towards the same goals as you but with an approach of "Jack of all trades, master of none" and would love someone to butt heads with! also i wouldn't want to put that much stress on you so that's another reason of splitting the work haha! just as a way to tie this in to discord, my username is bananercream, i'll send you a friend request!

also if anyone would like to help out with this insanity then that would be greatly appreciated lol

okay so im calling it the arctic circle dream and basically the best way i can explain it is this:

morally grey Carmen sandiego like person and her one sidekick, instant teleport system that uses like mini cell towers, has a grid that operates like a subway system for transport all over the world so there's like specific lines you can teleport along, where the assistant was sent to an off grid arctic teleport station on purpose to allow her to not be caught up in the mess that they got in to, where the Carmen type character her assistant,  she pops out of the off grid teleporter, wanders for a while in a blizzarding cold before finding carmen sandiego's dad who ends up taking her in and giving her a place to stay in the community, which is kind of like a very icy and snowy conservation/camping area with a few clusters of people and community here and there, witch shuttles operating between the little enclaves to the resources that everyone needs and is like quite far away, houses that people have are like some form of arctic tent and there's like 6-7 people in groups from 3-6, but thats just on average, so now the assistant is just trying to hide and integrate in to this tiny arctic town, ends up meeting another more intersex person than her, who they eventually bond and develop feelings for eachother because there is like a handful of queer people in this area but like they're really the only two lesbians (they're also both trans and intersex for some reason) so yeah it becomes like a slow burn. the assistant tries to avoid detection, and just generally live a life that she would be proud of, in spite of everything stacked against her, with maybe some participation in like college or something to involve everyone and have like a central place where  a lot of people gather.

(also side note but i want to share this insanity: the start of the dream started out as Spiderman x royal kind of affair where they had to pretend he wasn't engaged to the member of the family so he had to be chased but it's like the one adult peter from in to the spiderverse, and then morphed in to the Carmen sandiego theme of like acme chasing them but them also being morally grey for the better good i cant remember what exactly, then morphed in to a cozy town hiding thing later on which i got the final like theme from)

Yeah and I want to specifically learn how people can make games for jams in MonoGame in short amounts of time

Yeah but like I'm specifically looking for people's experiences on how they personally handled it

I am begging those who use it to spare some morsels of what they’ve learned because from where I stand they’re litterally gods compared to what I am able to hash out😭😭😭

Edit: TL;DR How you you personally crank out games for game jams in MonoGame? (on short notice)

I’m curious to know, because I’ve seen a fair amount of games developed for certain game jams programmed in MonoGame. Also due to MonoGame essentially being “make your own engine” with not very many pre-made tools, it seems hard to get a complete monogame project out that fast.

Anyways my question to the devs who use MonoGame for game jams, do you have pre configured tools you made and re-use? Did you memorize the entirety of the documentation and build it from scratch? Do you just re-use code a lot from old projects? What are your approaches to dealing with MonoGame’s “build it yourself” style?
