It's very interesting. I wish the presentation was more clear; the cards are so small and shoved in a corner. The eyes aren't naturally drawn toward that direction. Most Blackjack games put the cards in front of you on the bottom of the screen.
I just felt confused with so many different odd cards so frequently, and then they also add tarot cards. I'd probably introduce new cards and concepts at a slower pace. Here, I felt every new card was going to mess me up, so I kept skipping to grab any.
Besides all that, this is a good game. You should be proud of it.
More suggestions would be war drums for a dungeon.
One for a bustling desert city, and one for water caves where serpents might pop out and attack you, or maybe it's a gathering of nymphs.
Last would be for ghost towns, where everyone died from a plague or a monster attack, so you're just in there to see the aftermath.
I'm making a game in the sword and sandal genre, and this reminds me a lot of Conan, so it's perfect.
I'd want more in this "dark medieval" style that would fit locations where the player can rest, like healing temples/camp sites. Maybe talking to friendly NPCs, in shops/marketplaces or taverns.
A rainy jungle type theme would be good, also. Maybe another battle theme for the behemoth-sized bosses, where you know you're probably going to die.
I agree, but I probably won't work on this more. I don't like the layout, how inventory management and all that works. Wish I could have it be more like modern games where you drag and drop stuff, have tooltips, etc.
Just kind of lost motivation, but people really liked it on another site so I've just let them keep playing it.
I made the font myself. I've yet to try the workaround but will get back to you on that. Do you think you'll ever add the option for custom windows? I'd love if I could make it look like an old scroll.
EDIT: I tested it and it works great with the spacing option. Obviously it'd work best with fonts where the letters are the same width.
I'm not sure how you see that, nothing in this game seems to say that life is meaningless, unless you feel that way because you don't get to keep everything you want but that's just life, isn't it. Animals never think about this stuff, they just live.
I'm sorry if an existential crisis really was what killed your son, but not everyone will find a lack of bigger meaning in life a reason to end it.

Oh I'm not sure about that. Look at board games like Talisman with all expansions added, it becomes close to unplayable and very intimidating to look at. Maybe depending on HOW you add things makes a huge difference. Even if I have very powerful monsters appear on the first turn, I can control the chances of that happening and make them low. Point is, I'm afraid of bloating and confusing the player too much.
You do have to start all over when you die, and the idea is the longer you keep going the more difficult it will get. So far there's only like 5 enemy types, weapon and item shop and some items you find on the ground.
I hope to add traps, and that the dungeon will be more and more sinister-looking as you go deeper.

Maybe a lot of these could run inside the SAME parallel process instead of separate ones but you've probably already done that whenever possible. I wonder if the rogue-like aspects do constant checks too because if so, maybe stuff like that could be randomly generated BEFORE even starting the game unless it does that already. I know whatever I say is going to sound like unsolicited advice because I can't really see it all in front of me.
I'm surprised combat has so much going on because it doesn't SEEM that complicated, not to undervalue the tons of work that went into it and everything else. Wish I could see it more in depth what's going on but from what you've said it seems like that depth would take hours to dig through.
Reason I even comment is because I really enjoy this game and setting a lot which I said already. It's been rare to find the very darker themes and I'm surprised not more people are inspired by it.
