Thanks! The game ending at the point you describe was intentional in terms of story, but nothing further than that was implemented due to time constraints so it just freezes rather than resetting. It's a similar story with the fishing tools—the intent was to incorporate increasingly invasive fishing methods, but nothing beyond the spear was completed!
