That was super polished! I felt like each level was crafted super well to teach me just one new thing clearly. Got stuck on the locksmith level, would be cool to have a simple sort of hint system to get un-stuck

Fun game! At first it felt a little simple to just scout and counter, but towards the end it got really frantic trying to juggle doing everything quickly enough while having enough resources.
I really struggled to understand how to train units though. Even in the tutorial I didn’t understand that you had to click the little boxes to place the units. It would help to maybe highlight that a little more in the tutorial?
why you chose Godot?
I generally like using open source software when possible, mostly for the transparency aspect. I’ve used unity before and it worked fine, I just have grown to enjoy the Godot workflow.
Will you continue to update this game?
Probably not, although I’ll never say “never”! This was my first completed and released game so there’s a lot of stuff I’d like to completely redo from the beginning. However, I will be open-sourcing this entire game and linking that source code here (sometime soon).
Are you moving on to other projects?
Yep! I’m planning out a new project right now. My goal is to release that game and likely one other game this year. Any game I upload to this itch account will be free to play.
Glad to hear you thought it was fun! The current (and only) mode is an endless mode so it’s mainly a high-score chasing game.
More complex strategy and balancing was something I don’t think I spent sufficient time on pre-release. Pawn spam is for sure one of the best strategies.
The AI definitely makes (a lot) of blunders. I don’t think I fully realized how complex chess AI can get so I kept it relatively simple, which leads to a lot of bad moves!
