Thanks for the info about this.

I'm interested how you use the chatbot technology within the game. What would I need to do to code something similar into one of my own text adventure programs? Any help or direction greatly appreciated. BTW, I watched the preview and it's a nice game! :)

Cracking text adventure with an interesting and atmospheric storyline. Thoroughly enjoyed playing it and solving the puzzles. Well done!

Dear Quin,

Grateful thanks for your gift today in appreciation and support of the TAB adventure project. I will keep you informed of any updates, additions and developments.

Best regards, catventure.

Dear Quin,

Good to hear you were able to complete it!

The Arkham Abomination was my latest adventure. A Lovecraft fanfic horror which I entered into the Parsercomp-2021 jam. It is a text only one.

Tips, kofi... Well there is a PayPal donation button on my TAB site at tab.thinbasic. com

Happy Adventuring,

catventure.

Well Done! You found a bug (coding error on my part) preventing unlock door with key outside the mansion.

I've had to correct it and upload an update to my site that fixes that.

Please  download and use the newer version which is now available

http://tab.thinbasic.com/sims.zip

(If you have a saved game position it *should* still work in the newer update)

Regarding the spade:

dig

dig ground with spade

or

dig with spade

when you are in this location:

A Woodland Path.

The path isn't easy to spot from the Topiary Garden, hidden by the overgrown hedge overlapping the wall. It's deathly quiet here under the trees.

Thanks for your interest in the game.

I don't have a walkthru but if you have trouble completing it I could send you the database entries if that helps, otherwise I'm happy to continue supplying help with the individual puzzles you may get stuck on.

catventure/Phil.

I'm out but will reply tonight with the hint/solution hopefully.

Hi Quin and sorry for delay. Haven't looked at this in ages. I did not create the game just re-coded it in a later TAB version.

The code for the door is: reticulating splines

I cannot see from the data any clue to that!

In the game, when you access the computer and choose the the sims site "forum" you will automatically post a request to ask if anyone knows Will Wrights nickname. After that, check back to the forum later a couple of times and eventually a user called "tug" posts a reply with his current nickname that he's been using in the TSR chatroom.

Hope this helps.

Uploaded a newer version (v0.6)  to my itch download page this afternoon at 17.40 GMT.

Fixes issues reported by Garry.

Sorry for all revisions - but needed to fix some critical issue.

Tired and time for food and - FOOTBALL!!!

Uploaded a newer version to my itch download page this morning at 10.00am GMT.

Phew! And a further update to container issues at 3.38pm GMT today Jul 11th.

Hello nsmp,

Perhaps you gave up too easily? In the help instructions it clearly says:

You may be able to get objects from or put objects in a container type of object eg:

>put rope in rucksack

>get knife out box

One or two other players have mentioned about having trouble with container objects though, so I have posted another new update at 10.00am GMT this morning 11 Jul 2021.

Now when you see a description of an open container that holds object(s):

In the desk is: a receipt, Clark's jotter and a newspaper clipping.

You may now acquire an object inside the container by typing :

>get receipt

or

>get the receipt from drawer / get receipt out desk

or

>get all out desk

Thanks for trying the game and for your comments. I fixed the issues you raised and posted a new version for download this morning. :)

Thanks for trying it guys and well done for figuring out the solution! (I will make a point to do a future code or text change to attend to the misunderstanding that Mr Patient experienced)

OK. Thanks Dee.

Hi Adam, I submitted my game page  with about 5 hours to go. I hope I did it right. I changed it to "Restricted" and made a password. Hope that's Ok? Please let me know if I need to change anything.

Program updated 18 October 2021.

**Special Note: When starting the program it's possible that some virus checkers may produce a "false-positive" warning. You may need to tell your antivirus software to create an 'exception' for the game app in order to allow it to run**

I have posted a few messages to try and get any feedback on the issue.

I haven't got XP to test it. I have been told that if such an issue arises in XP  it should create a crash dump file when this occurs. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Watson_(debugger) for further details.

Maybe some info there that might help solve?

Thanks for your report. I'll look into it. Seems OK on Vista and above...  I will try and find out if other XP users have same problem.

Hi and welcome rcbasicfans,

Yes - written with Thinbasic  http://thinbasic.com/

I have dabbled in Sinclair Basic, AmigaBasic, AMOS Basic, Liberty Basic, IBasic and ThinBasic.

Yes - it is a Windows downloadable offline tool for making parser input text or text/graphic adventures with sound and music.

Yes - Similar to ADRIFT in some ways. Quite different in other ways.

You would have to try them to find out which one you liked and were comfortable in using.

Thx for info about your jam.

Hi,

I updated my games page with some new text adventures.

A retro-style, offline, downloadable, parser-based text adventure for Windows XP and above (32/64bit)

https://catventure.itch.io/even-the-devil-must-die

Regards,

catventure.

OK. I tried it on my Windows  10 laptop 64bit. worked fine with no problems.

Hmmm... Yes - might be that. On the QB site I see there is a 32 bit version of QB64 too. Maybe you could try compiling with that one as well? :)

Here is the dialog message when I run the .EXE file:

Downloaded it to my PC desktop  - but would not run on mine. (Windows Vista - 32-bit) Any ideas to make it work?

Hi - Played and solved in about one hour today! Thanks for an interesting storyline and I enjoyed the atmospheric descriptions and solving the puzzles.

I found this to be an atmospheric  text/graphic horror adventure  with some spooky locations,  an interesting story, and some fun puzzles to solve . It's a quest to  rid a cursed village from a  nefarious evil that has caused many deaths over the years.  Easy to play and interact with using the familiar standard two word input commands.  You can save your progress if desired - although mine seemed to be auto-saved in my browser.  I was able to continue where I left off quite easily over the three sessions in the single day that it took me to finish the game.

There are no sudden deaths  or complicated mazes and I didn't need to  make a map to complete or refer to. You are left in no doubt as to the commands you require to communicate with the  program so there is no real "guessing"  as to what to type in.

Enjoyment lies in the challenge of  figuring out how  to utilise the various objects that you discover in order to progress and make headway toward the eventual climax where you get to confront the dark and horrific evil itself!

The author has designed one or two clever, thought provoking puzzles created to make you think a bit and not have it too easy.  I would class it as a good effort in the time allowed.

Had a quick play. I liked the story, idea and text. Lovely graphics which were easy on the eye and good implementation. Completed it successfully  - but I see I from the after game analysis that I could have done much better and solved a few  more puzzles to discover several more items. Will see if I can do better on next play through. Thanks for producing a good game. I fancy some mushrooms for my tea now! :) LOL

Hi - I think I found an error! If I plug the boat with the ring BEFORE I enter it  means I cannot use the boat because the game reports the hole is still unplugged and the ring has disappeared! So I am stuck and cannot progress further. Thanks

Is there a full and complete version of this game?

"PiggeryJokery" Text Adventure.

Author: catventure (c)2002. Updated Dec 2018.

This adventure game is text only and of the traditional sort. It is similar to the old Infocom/Magnetic Scrolls/Level 9 type which were popular in the mid 1980`s.

It is also similar to popular 80's 8-bit text adventures created with the QUILL, PAW or GAC adventure utilities.

There are no pictures, sounds or animations in this game.

In this game, because of your transgressions, you have become the victim of an enchantment and transformed into a little pink piglet.

Hi MagikGimp. Appreciate your feedback. This is a very strange behaviour and I  have tried but cannot seem to duplicate it on mine; nobody else has reported this one. Could you be kind enough to provide any more details + Windows version you are using etc?  Thanks for bringing it to my attention and I will try to help solve it if I can.

"Thinbasic Adventure Builder" (aka T.A.B.) is my text adventure; interactive fiction creator for PC Windows XP and above platform.

It's a personal project which I am sharing with the Interactive Fiction community at large.

TAB operates on very similar principles to popular 8-bit 80's retro text adventure creator programs like QUILL, PAW or GAC.
It consists of a database an interpreter and a parser.

TAB Editor - construct your adventure.

TAB Player - test and play your adventure.

Finished games can easily be made into a standalone executable application enabling players to download and play a created game offline without needing to own the TAB program itself.

This text adventure game originally written by Ambrosine in 2000 is text only and of the traditional sort. It is similar to the old Infocom/Magnetic Scrolls/Level 9 type which were popular in the mid 1980`s.
It is also similar to popular 80's 8-bit text adventures created with the QUILL, PAW or GAC adventure utilities.
There are no pictures or sounds, or animations in this particular game. However there is a background music track. ( Music credit: Eric Matyas; soundimage.org )

This demo is not a big game, more of a mini-adventure really.
It is, however, fully solvable and save/load enabled. The puzzles are not too difficult. Beginners or experienced adventurers *should* have little trouble in completing the game - eventually... :)

The game was created using TAB - a *free* Windows retro-text adventure maker; interactive fiction program by catventure.  More info at:

In this game you simply have to find the burial chamber in the nearby pyramid, get the treasure, and make it out of the pyramid alive within 24 game hours. A ReadMe help text file is included.
