Jazz theory is super fun to learn and it can be applied to any genre or area of music. I've been studying it for around 2 years now and still have huge gaps in my knowledge.

If you plan on writing more jazz in the future, I would reccomend listening to some classic records and paying attention to what each instrument is doing. Just like any genre, that is the best way to learn how to write it. Listening. The classic Miles Davis quote is "You have to know the rules before you break them" and that is very true too.

Really nice song, can't say there's much to improve. Maybe vary the sections a little more? But that is quite hard to do with a 2 minute limit. Amazing job.

Great use of countermelody, hard to believe you are a beginner. Only thing I can say is to vary things more. Really good job.

You have the talent, please upgrade to logic! This ks one of the best entries I've seen so far. Keep it up.

Very nice, very high quality chiptune stuff. I would have liked to see more variation and different sections, though.

Really like this one. Very ambitious and texturally very nice. My favorite part was the horn section stabs. One thing about jazz though, especially in this swing-like style, the piano rarely holds chords. Because the bass is holding down the core of the harmony with the walking bassline (the core being the root and quality) the pianos main role is to fill space and add extensions. This means that the piano usually plays quite rhythmically and doesn't have to fill out all the notes of the chord. The good news is that this unlocks a whole new world of voicings when the function of the chord isn't a priority.

Thank you! I am a bass player so hearing that my lines sound nice is always a huge compliment 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I completely agree with the snare bit. Honestly, if I had to remake this track I'd probably get a different snare sound to begin with. I plan on getting some more drum samples so my stuff soujds a little cleaner, the stock snares on fl studio suck. In terms of their frequency, I was trying to make it a rhythmic palendrome as well so there wasnt much i could do about it. Same with the kicks, but obviously they are less prominent. Glad you enjoyed!

The best thing I've heard so far. I have to ask, did you play any of those instruments live? Was it a midi keyboard? I'm so enthralled by this song and my curiosity has peaked. I really hope you win this.

Wow! Just wow! Incredible track. Grandiose, tense, it fits perfectly into a souls game but at the same time the synths make it so unique. The only criticism I have is I would have liked to hear more of the choir, really added to the boss music feel of that song. Well done!

really cool, very silent hill sounding. otherworldly. would work well in a soundtrack as ambient music, just would have liked to hear more happening.
