Yes it does, play his game until you take all of his bones.
Having all of them when going into the ending cutscene is enough.
unless you have nothing else in your inventory other than the formless objects and the rug piece, in which case that's a bug and i'll look into it

as for being stuck...yeah, that puzzle's honestly not the best, but you can combine the Rug Piece with something you definitely already have in your inventory :)
