Hey, most people's first games are buggy too, since they're just learning the ropes of game development. Keep trying and learning and you'll get better in time!

My first game jam was an extremely tiring and challenging, yet absolutely amazing experience! I placed 21st with 19 ratings, and I'm so grateful to everyone who rated my game and to anyone who participated in the jam to make it possible. I will never forget Mini Jam as my very first game dev competition!
Keep making amazing games everyone!
Thanks for all the suggestions! Combos in the game could absolutely be improved with the ideas you have below, as currently they're implemented in mostly the form that they were when I first added them in by accident haha. As for holding down to shoot, it's a great idea but I didn't really want the player to simply be able to constantly hold down and easily pop everything without any punishment. And a penalty system for missing a shot would definetely not be something I'd want to add, since in my opinion, it would take away a lot from to the whole chill experience by being too stressful for the player. Anyways, I really appreciate the rating and feedback regardless, so thank you!
Very cool ideas you've came up with to improve the game! If this wasn't the last day, I probably would've tried to implement some of them. Thanks for the long review, I really appriciate it! (Also, it took me almost a full day to get the bubble removal mechanic working, so I'm really happy that somebody actually noticed it haha. )
Thanks for your comment & rating! Funnily enough, the game actually does ramp up in difficulty as time passes, but it does so incredibly slowly, meaning that it takes a while for the game to actually get hard. When I was messing with the values, I decided that I didn't want to make the game too hard too quickly since I wanted the game to retain a more chill feeling, but I agree that without much difficulty, the game gets boring. I may put out a quick update today, and if I do I will certainly try to balance out the difficulty a bit. Appreciate the feedback!
Cool game! Definitely a rage game, I was getting so annoyed when I couldn't make certain jumps haha. The art looks amazing though, and I love the duck character. The music definitely gets pretty boring and repetitive after a while, but that isn't too important since I can always just mute the tab! Overall a well made and polished game, so nice job!
The amount of polish on this game is absolutely insane! The art looks incredible, and everything is super well designed and thought out. The way this game features a puzzle aspect through the trap laying is quite cool, though I don't know how much different trap configurations altered gameplay.
The tutorial is easily the most impressive part of the game though, as not a single other tutorial level in the jam (that I have tried at least) has been so cohesive and well designed. By the end of the tutorial I felt like I could play the game for hours and never get confused, even with all of the complex mechanics in the game.
With some form of level system, I could easily see this being a fully fledged game that you could charge at least a couple dollars for, seeing how polished and professional it is. This has to be one of the most well thought out and designed games in the whole jam, so hats off to you!
Anyways, I just dropped a follow on your account to see what you make in the future; incredible job on the jam submission!
Very cool game, the upgrading mechanic is one that I actually haven't seen any other game include so far! Personally, I found the game to be a bit too easy since the enemies didn't really pose all that much of a threat to the player. But the art is amazing, and my favorite part has to be the jumping mechanic -- It's so smooth! Great game, very well done.
Enjoyed playing this, and the music added a ton to the game as a whole! The movement feels really nice, and the floating bubbles in the game are a cool mechanic. There's a lot of bugs in the game though; a couple I noticed were the game over screen and the win screen being able to pop up over each other, and the bubbles sometimes not floating as intended. But overall this is a well done game; so great job!
Challenging, yet very enjoyable game! For me, it was the music and just the overall atmosphere of the game that really immersed in the world and made this a fantastic experience. The controls were simple and easy to understand, and I especially loved the dungeon-crawler type mechanics sprinkled throughout the level. This is definitely one of the better entries; amazing job!
Great platformer! I love the pixel art, and the music fits so well with the game. The movement was incredibly tight, making the game a fun to play experience, and the special ability was designed well. The only thing I take issue with is the difficulty of the levels; they were extremely hard! Other than that a great game, nice job.
So I've seen a couple people put up posts offering rating trades, and it seems like a good way to gain ratings during a jam (this is my first one!) I've already rated a decent number of games so I might have already rated yours, but if you'd like to swap ratings then just play and rate my game, and then post your game in this topic. I'll rate and comment on every single game in the thread!
Here's my game, it's a minimalistic top-down shooter:
I rated and reviewed your game, it was really fun!
Here's my entry so you can rate it: https://itch.io/jam/mini-jam-84-bubbles/rate/1121882
Awesome art and music; the game perfectly captures the Atari feel! The breath mechanic was cleverly designed and gives the player the feeling of blowing a bubble incredibly well, but I think that the breath powerups weren't really rare enough to feel like a limited resource. The gameplay was super fun though, and I really enjoyed myself while playing; amazing submission!
