Neither is currently planned I'm afraid.

That could be it - the issue was that the game wasn't saving the state of your choice properly, so when you went back you were pretty much getting random results.

It's a subtle issue that's not been flagged by anyone before now - and thanks to you its fixed! Hurrah! Appreciate you reaching out.

I am struggling to re-create the loop but I will keep trying!

I do expect most players to exhaust all other options before saying "I can't help you", but also provide the option to short-cut the conversation. Certainly there's no intention to create an inescapable loop here.

Hmm. To be clear, you do have to pick "I'm sorry, I can't help you" from the root of that menu (don't worry, she talks him around)

Overview

Step into the gumshoes of P.I. Sam Steele in Private Dick: an erotic visual novel.

Private Dick is  detective thriller, told in a classic Raymond Chandler style but with a bit more humour and a lot more sex. It is both homage and parody and shallow imitation.

A down-on-his-luck PI with nothing to do but drink (and maybe finally write that memoir), Steele is in a rut. The internet has driven his business into the ground: with all the information of the web at one's fingertips, no-one seems to need a P.I., anymore.

Steele's fortunes turn around - although not necessarily for the better - shortly after climbing into bed with a beautiful woman. When his ex-girlfriend appears out of no-where, Steele is drawn into a tangled web of corporate conspiracy, dubious morality, wanton deceit and sweaty bedsheets.

Private Dick marries a modern and relevant mystery with heady, whiskey-fuelled atmosphere and lashings of joyful depravity.

A three-way marriage? Welcome to Private Dick.

Project Progress

I've been working on the game in some form since January this year. 

There's a free demo available here on itch which I'll be continuing to update over the next few weeks. Eventually it'll contain the game's entire first act - but before I can get that far, I need to secure funding.

So I'll be launching a kickstarter soon. Follow me here or on Twitter for news about that.

I've plotted out the whole story, written maybe 20% of it, and at the moment I'm working with a team of artists to refine the art style. I'm also spending a lot of time on promotion ahead of the Kickstarter.

Design Pillars

Private Dick is built around some key design pillars which go into every decision  make:

  • Diversity in character and content. The game world is populated with a range of skin tones and body types in NPCs, as well as a range of sexual activities from the boringly normal to the utterly weird.
  • Positivity in all sexual conduct. But which I mean all the sex consensual and non-humiliating (to a point!), everyone is enjoying themselves.
  • Realism in character design. There are no grotesque body shapes to be found here and lots of "imperfections" amongst the cast - imperfections which, I think, make people truly beautiful. This game is nothing if not a celebration of the female form.
  • Creativity in sexual encounters. Sex in lewd games can be so BORING, with lots of "oohs" and "aahs", bland dialog and bland action. I writing a twist or kink or surprise into every single scene so that there's always something fresh.
  • Generosity in content and production. This will be a vast game with lots of content. But I also intend to run a generous project in terms of collaborating with artists and giving something back to the players.
