Thanks for your kind reply.  I did always wanted to consider making a similar type of game.  I just wanted to tell that your comment kept hammering my mind this last 3 years.  Today I can finally reply to it with a nice feeling :)

I do not know if you are still around, but HUGE thank you.  I finally mange to get the motivation and determination as to help me build the 'inspired by' but fully original game I have been wanting to build ever since I got inspired by these amazing IREM's game series.  The game I'm going to build will be way different but hopefully not in a bad way.  I hope to be able to achieve the same type of feel/atmosphere to it, even while it will be based on a very different and fully original: story, content and game universe.

Like Egon (Programmer) said, it's a shame that code can't really bee seen as part of a game creation, since he did a great job into making everything really structured and efficient. I guess the 'inefficient' part of the game is just me trowing too sloppy art (because it was a jam) in there without worrying as I should normally do in terms of performance :)

Totally agreed with your feedback man!  Thanks a lot for giving it a try!  Your game was really interesting as well!

Wow, sorry that I missed these messages!  Thanks a lot Julen, well, the 'pixel art' is not ours tbh with you, it's just a place holder that was left unintentionally in there, since we rushed the build to just a few minutes before/during the dateline, so I even forgot to turn it off.  The gameplay for the first level of R-Type is that short actually.   It's a shame we couldn't really finished even so.  The point of the first R-Type game, in my opinion is more so that its a mix of shrump with some strategy at the same time.   So enemies are kinda positioned strategically to kinda force your route, deliberately.  In this case, we were just copying shamelessly right from the original scene as well XD

Thanks bro!  Glad you liked!   We were a tad behind schedule and needed to start another project (Egon and me) - so, we didn't really pushed into finishing it properly as we should.  Sadly this happens in most game jams I guess.  I hope to find some time at some point to finish it properly as portfolio piece.   Great work with your entry as well! Love it

Thanks mate!   :)       Glad you liked and thanks for sharing around!

If by any chance need great music for your own creations, I'll totally recommend you to ring James.   He's the responsible for the music and really accessible as well.

HHahah!!  It was soo fun!  Thanks a lot for your paticipation Gabs!

It's super cool!  I love it :)  I got motivated into trying to spot a possible eastern egg , so I went trying to burn all trees I can at the same time placing bombs in random places, I even detected a tree were the fire wand shooting spell get's repelled XD    -  Thanks a lot for participating, I do love the end results and hope it was a wonderful learning experience and enjoyment for you to craft as well.

Hi, just supplying you the .psd file of the cover image for the game submission!   Remember you can submit as early as possible so that others can start following your development and progress!  You can always keep updating your game until the very end of the game jam.   So don't be afraid of submitting by thinking you can't do any more changes or the like. That's not how it works! ;)

Submit, get noticed, get encouraged, get better and more organized links to share at the group, and keep up the great work until the very end of the game jam!

Here you go:   [ Iitch.io  - Game Submission - COVER ART - Download ]   :)

Pretty sure he can be help!  :)      and yeah!  You coded that mini game really fast!  And it looks cool by the way since it's got a fair amount of options and it has gameplay already XD  - Niice!

We do strongly suggest, given the nature of the games being created : Reboots from usually well known, and some times even existing franchises - that you include a disclaimer at your Game Entry at the Game Jam, explaining your motives and asking for consideration on behalf of the copyrights holders / franchise - so that they learn that the game is not meant to be freely distributed, published or sold.  That the games are just being made for fun, practice and learning exercise and that you'll remove it after the game jam's evaluation period ends.

[ Please note that if you so desire - you can, when the game jam ends (after your entry get's judged / rated), use a different story / characters / art / music, etc.  Even add a few mechanics here and there, etc.  And you can totally transform your project into 'some other non-related to the reboot game'; in such case, that resulting new project you can totally publish (if not inflicting any copyrights then) .   So, while it can be seen for some as 'loosing your time', in regards of not being able to publish the game itself,  reality is:  You can still make full use of the source code you're developing.   Also, note that while you might not be able to keep the game jam's game posted along too much time, you can totally have it in a private portfolio website and can totally use it for showing, as part of your private portfolio material as well - so, in this senses you're not 'loosing your time' ]

Sample Simple Disclaimer Starts :   "... Please note that although we're recreating some of our favorite video games of all times - some of them are copyrighted material  - Like in this case, R-Type is a product of Irem Software - We're not affiliated with Irem Software and we're making this project just as a sharing and learning experience during the Game Jam.   It'll just be a replica of the first level of the original R-Type (1987) - but rebooted (refreshed visuals / effects / audio) - in this case by making use of Unity Game Engine.  It will extend to no more than that.  We do not commit to finishing it, as this is a just fur fun, practicing and learning event's project.   We'll not make the code or assets available, so please don't ask about it.  The prototype will only be available for the public to play it while the event is running, after this, the project will be held fully private and will only be used as game development portfolio material. ..."

***Disclaimer of the disclaimer :   I'm not a lawyer *, so I can not warranty that it be 'acceptable' at all, you might be better of with one from the web maybe that can be formal and legally accepted - you have been warned - sorry for that, but its necessary yadda, yada.. mumble, jumble..

Andy if you mean James, I think he's available to work for few teams / individuals around that requires his help as musician.  Just saying - for example, he's already working our entry's music.  But if not mistaken, what he is saying is that he can totally can help you as well (an maybe others - I guess depending on his available time of course? ) but the invite is right there!  :)

Annd your already got something to show right on the first week, man you're fast! XD  Awesome!

Thanks James!  It's great to have you around!  Huge thanks for this!

Short answer:  Sadly, nope!  There are not going to be prizes.

We were going to offer, however, we noticed that if we were to offer them, then we needed to restrict participation at the game jam event only to certain countries / regions.  In agreement with international regulations / laws.  We are sorting this out, so hopefully the next event we  have, we can be able to offer prizes and still be able to keep the participation as open as possible.

We hope you do understand and if you decide to participate of the event anyways, well, thank you, we're humbled.  We do really appreciate your participation and we're glad you stay to share with us nevertheless.

Which Old Games?

From 80's to 90's  -  we don't encourage rebooting too near games, as the subject will kinda loose it's meaning somehow.

Which Hardware / Platforms?

The games can be from any platform, PC (Mac/Amiga/Atari ST/Coco/Tandem - whichever), Console (all consoles) or Arcades (all arcades).

Does it need be a full  clone?

Nope.  You can achieve the feel of the original game, but it can be totally different in terms of visuals and sound.  It could also have added mechanics (that's up to you to decide).

Can it be a full exact clone?

Absolutely.  You can opt to keep it 100%  clone.   It's perfectly fine as well.

Note:  if you have more questions - feel free to add as comments so we might get to answer them or expand this material.

Hope everything is great for you guys,

Wish you all do have a great time sharing around with us, as we do get to create some awesome game reboots!

Communications  / Inquires :

If you have any doubts about the jam, please feel free to post around here, try be as explicit as possible at the 'title' of your post so we might get a quick glance at your concerns and prioritize accordingly.    If it's something that you feel need immediate attention, please do message me trough the group @ Facebook  / or any of the mods around so we might attend to it as soon as possible..

Showing Up / Sharing Your Progress:

We do kindly request from you all, if possible, that you post your work in progress as much as possible through out  your networks,  as one important aspect of the event is getting to share our creativity / creation processes around.   Without this sharing efforts, feedback and conversation around our projects would be minimal or non-existent.  At the end of the day, we're about community, and this very own event is possible due to the community interactions in relation to our game development and creativity efforts!  So go to your networks, share your progress, #Tag the event (#RebootApalooza)  and ensure through it that more activities like this one will be made as result!

Why?  - It's all about exposition.  The more you share your progress at the event, the more audience will get back at the whole event, not just at your entry, everyone will start getting curious and will drop by to take a peek.  When they do, most likely, they'll find something of interest and will get motivated to share in turn, thus bringing in other audiences different than yours that will also look at your projects and thus you start earning additional exposition.  It's all a giant chain that's slowly getting put into motion by your sharing efforts.

Where? - We do specially request you share at two main strategic places :

1) Unity Connect (So that we share the best with the Unity Community)

2)  International Unity Developers  : Our Facebook Group  (FB)

3) Any other places you might wish to, like for example:  Sketchfab, Artstation, Polygon,  etc.
