Thanks for the feedback!
As I list in the description, it IS in 64x64 resolution, but scaled up by stretching, which is allowed by the rules :)
Plus, because I'm in a summer semester of Uni, I gave myself only one afternoon to work on this. So everything here was accomplished in under 5 hours, by myself, in one sitting. That's why it's very basic :/
Thank you for playing! Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm so glad you got the theme we were going for. We spent a good chunk of time working to intermix the theme and the gameplay, so I'm happy that came through!
The mismatching elements, like the telescope, were to give the the whole experience a more "dreamlike" feel ;)
The aesthetics were a point of pride in this project. Its the first time I ever wrote shader code (for the water), and the 2d sprites turned out surprisingly well.
Completely agree about the poor microphone quality, haha 😂
We tried implementing subtitles, but could not sync them to the audio, so we scrapped them. They were more distracting than helpful, unfortunately.
Sorry about that, I have no idea what happened :/
I can't change the files during the voting period, but here's an alternate download link:

Thanks for taking the time! (And letting me know, haha)
Just finished it! Great job on the art. I liked the minigames. Rearranging the letters and hangman. I wish there were more of those.
At the same time, I wish the puzzles were a bit more involved with the point and click stuff. You just entered a room, and clicked on everything until the next dialogue sequence started.
The characters also just walk into an empty room with weird paint, and just kind of... assume, that there are traps that are going to kill them? It wasn't very clear how or why they couldn't just move. The only supernatural thing the Ghost ever does is lock doors and talk from nowhere... which could just as easily be elaborate microphones and gizmos.
The story also suffers from the fact that there are numerous GLASS windows in the backgrounds of various rooms... and the characters have bricks and scalpels and maces... but instead they ignore those and willingly climb into Iron Maidens and break their own fingers?
Maybe I'm over thinking this :)
PS: The scene where they had to break their own finger made me genuinely uncomfortable. Good job!
I really like the artstyle. I haven't seen an RPG maker game in a while.
I couldn't get past the dining room / kitchen. When I hid in the bottom left corner, the ghost there would still "see" me, alert, then run right to the hiding spot. It then got stuck moving away, "seeing" me again, and then running back to the hiding spot.
Me and my little brother had a blast (he played it through twice actually to check out both of the dialogue options with the Lumberjack). Loved the writing and the characters. Everything about them from the art to the dialogue is warm and fuzzy :)
Some nitpicks:
-Very linear, which is entirely understandable for a demo. Presumably, you're gonna open it up a lot more in the final game. If you up the exploration, and keep the mandatory cutscene moments to a minimum, this game will amazing!
-My little brother was disappointed that he couldn't place the pot on top of the dresser, lol :)
-The fire particles look like dust particles at first glance. The skeles in the GIF on this page look like they stink like Pigpen from Charlie Brown
-I'm on a big monitor, and the game window is one size. I understand this is a limitation of the demo. Just putting that out there.
All that aside, can't wait for the full game. The demo was very fun for how small it is- I just wish there was more of it!
PS: Not enough frogs and turtles stealing Viking helmets "For the War Effort" ;)
There's a timer at the top of the screen when you play the doctor part. When it reaches zero you return to the battlefield and the game loops. You can technically play forever with new, unique names for the blurble soldiers being generated every time.
But yeah, it's jankey in every respect 😅
Thanks for coming back to it though and trying it out!
I beat your game. I enjoyed it a lot, it's a simple concept but quite fun ^.^
The only problem I found was that the range of the enemies attacks (aside from the wizard) felt too long. For instance, the skeletons sword would hit me a distances that felt far enough away to be safe.
Regardless, since the levels load instantly and only fifteen seconds of progress are lost on death, I still beat the game anyway ^.^
I had a blast playing this for a few minutes! Really great concept, and really satisfying to play.
Aside from the bugs you mention in the description, the only thing I found weird was controlling the wibbly circle thingy by holding the mouse. Maybe have it at a set distance that expands even further whent he mouse is pressed, and returns to the default distance when released?
