As another Linux user (Pop!_OS) I can report that everything works fine except the video of the RPG Maker version in the Bonus Tunnels, which doesn't play in-game (I can still play in a regular media player).

There isn't any constructive criticism to be made. It's difficult to constructively say "have better opinions", but that is definitely the book's problem.
