We're in the last days of collecting the data as part of the Gamedev.js Survey, aka State of Web Game Development 2024.

If you haven't submitted the form yet, please go ahead and do it before December 20th:

https://gamedevjs.com/survey-2024-form

Thanks to OP Guild we'll be giving away 10 × $50 via PayPal to random participants who will leave their email addresses at the very end of the form, which is entirely optional. Results will be published in January, thanks!

This question was suppose to have more options so you could pick roles based on the engines used and be assigned to given channels, but it's clearly unfinished, sorry about that. It was entirely optional though, so you could absolutely ignore it when joining.

That said, I've turned off the onboarding and will bring it back when it's ready.

And yes, you can use RPG Maker with the web export just fine.

The Jam is part of the Gamedev.js community which started in 2013 with local meetups, and then had workshops/hackathons, newsletter, and much more. It's a brand, and won't be changed, but maybe a little background will clear things for you.

The first Jam was organized in 2020, but there's older event I'm organizing - js13kGames competition, the first edition was held in 2012. This is a difficult and challenging compo where you have to squeeze your entry into a 13 kilobyte zip package, which not even experienced JavaScript developers can do well. That's why the idea for something more open, without any limitations, and so "anything that works on the web fits" in Gamedev.js Jam, even if you exported from Unity and never even seen JavaScript.

Still, the core of the whole thing is JavaScript, and we promote JavaScript games, it's just that anyonoe can participate in the hope of convincing those who use Unity export to see there are really cool games made with engines like Phaser which works way better and faster on the web.

Congrats once again and thank you for joining!

Great, thanks!

Yes, remove the Open Source challenge selection in your sumission then, thanks.

Hey, can you please share the link to the source code hosted on GitHub? It's needed to qualify your entry into the Open Source challenge, thanks!

Hey, can you please make the GitHub repository public? It's needed to qualify your entry into the Open Source challenge, thanks!

Ok, then please remove the js13kGames challenge checkbox, thanks.

Hey, can you please provide the link to the zip, so we can validate the size? Same for GitHub repo. Thanks!

Seems it's way bigger than 13 kb zipped - can you please remove it from the js13kGames challenge? Thanks!

Please remove it from the js13kGames challenge then, thanks!

Totally agree on both not publishing mutiple topics about the same game, and the advice to get more feedback - thanks Yhac10!

That's a really cool game, I do hope you'll get plenty of solid feedback!

The main requirement of the whole game jam was that the entry is playable in the browser on the Itch page...

Ping me (end3rEnclave) on Discord and we'll see about adding it.

No worries, better to be there if it was indended as an entry, you'll get feedback from other folks and could improve afterwards if you wanted to.

If it's critical then I guess we could do it today, but ping me on Discord about it ASAP.

You have to ping me on Discord in a DM for us to finalize this.

Would be great if you manage to do it in the next couple of hours, as we'll already preparing the summary blog post with all the numbers.

Ping me (end3renclave) on Discord and I'll see what we can do about it.

Cool, congrats!

Answered on Discord already, but will leave the answer here as well: you can edit the description, upload screenshots, ect, you just can't send zips with new builds as that's locked for the voting period.

Sounds interesting, hope you manage to implement it before the deadline!

Yeah, as long as it's not built a long time ago for a different jam and you only happen to submit it to this one now, then go ahead and submit.

From what I've seen there were some discussions about it. Feel free to join our Discord (if you haven't already) and share your idea in the #OPGames channel, would be awesome to see what you're working on!

There are no mugs, and the address for the t-shirt (in the js13kGames challenge) will be asked in a month from now, when the winners will be announced.

Go for it, just make sure to know how to export from GDevelop to the web and submit through Itch before the deadline.

Both options are fine, you can go for either of the ideas you had.

You can add contributors to your game when you create and submit it through Itch.

Yes, if you bought them and have all the rights to use them, then you are free to do so, same for generators!

As long as you can export Scratch games to be submitted to Itch and playable there, so they can also be voted on, then yes, but you'd have to make sure that's true.

Sounds cool, good luck!

You can use any engine that will export your entry for the web so it can be playable in the browser. At the end of the Itch page you have the Engines section which lists some of the options.

The prizes can't be exchanged for money if that's what you're asking. Full list is either on the Itch page or here: https://gamedevjs.com/jam/2024/#prizes

Only if you can submit it through Itch.io.

Hey, the easiest would be to join our Discord server since we have a dedicated #teams channel - share what you do or look through other people's intros to find the best teammates.
