This looks awesome! I can't wait to try this game out. Keep up the great work!

I'd love to hear Panic's reasoning on the rejection. There are currently games on Catalogue that are either completely broken and barely functional, or with barely any game to begin with.

Mini Monsters, by comparison, feels quite rich. I guess maybe no one from their crew ever had a v-pet, so they have no clue that there's tons to come with time? I mean, at a surface level glance, if you don't give it time, not much is going on. If you don't know what a Tamagochi is, you may certainly think that it feels incomplete.

But that's only to their detriment. I hope that the game manages to end up on there! And I'm very hyped for the update.

Could also be an unlockable? Something you earn over time. I also like how the Digimon Pendulum handles the concept: if you ace a minigame, it gives you max hearts.

A pause function and a way to increase heart gain for those moments where you don't have a ton of time. =]

Ever since the PlayDate was introduced, I had high hopes that someone could make a Tamagochi-inspired game, and this is pretty much what I had on my mind. Great job, I'm sure that it took a lot of clever planning.

That said, as someone who is heavily invested in v-pets in general (and who has a drawer full of them), I'm aiming to provide some feedback, which I find to be crucial in order for anyone to properly enjoy Mini Monsters:

  • We need a Pause function, stat! My job is full of responsibilities and urgencies, and I can't always be around for the little one. And I think it's fair to say that I'm not the only one like that. Sometimes I can't reach for my PlayDate for days. Modern V-pets have a Freeze function for a reason. I think that this should be at the top of your update priority list, unless the function is already in here and I'm not seeing it.
  • I feel like hearts are dropping way, way too fast. V-pet remakes typically lower the amount, because, let's face it, the prime audience is nostalgia-fueled adults, who don't have as much time as kids. I'm not saying that you should lower it permanently, but maybe giving us a toggle to choose is a great idea. My reason being: I had to reach for my PlayDate four times in the last hour, while my other two V-pets haven't bothered me with anything in the last 2,5 hours. It means something.
  • The mini games are great and very nostalgic, however they take a long, long time to complete and grant just a single heart. I propose a fix: if the user passes the minigame without a single error, the full hearts are restored. Otherwise: they gain one. But still, I'd say that having another option is a good idea, maybe something passive, like "playing" and leaving the Monster to play on it's own for X amount of time, coming back with full Happiness, but Hungry? That makes for a fair trade-off, I think (especially considering that Hunger is way, way easier to fill).
  • This one is very subjective and fueled from my love for Digimon: battles? Please? xD

Thats about it from me for now, but I've only played about a day or so. I love the concept and I hope that there are many updates planned, because this is certainly one of the most impressive PlayDate games I've played.

Great job and thanks for your efforts! I can't wait to see what more you've got in store for Mini Monsters. And I'd defo support a sequel.

Donation increases if you add characters. xD Glad to hear that. You showcase a really promising concept, btw, you can really work on this to make it a separate release. I advise you to do that, there isn't really something like this on the PD (as far as I've seen).

Let me rephrase: I'm willing to offer my support in the form of a "donation".

Not gonna lie, my dude, if you add more levels and fix the "spheres" to change color after being collected, I'd pay for this. Heck, I'd pay more if I can get to play with multiple characters.

So long as the game keeps being canon, of course.

Hey there! Thanks for responding. I appreciated the story for sure, but I simply didn't expect this well crafted of a psychological horror story on the the yellow console with the crank that has tons of games about dogs doing cool things. But in reality, maybe that is what enchanced the experience so much.

If you feel like adding something to the warning screen, I'd throw in a few warnings about people with sensitivity to hospital stays, illnesses and conditions. The way you used the concept to subvert expectations was masterful, but it was the most stressful part to me for sure. I think you get what I mean.

That's why I wanted to come back and leave a review, highlighting that this is a very well made game, but it is true-horror. Consider my suffering a form of praise.

A standout among Playdate games for sure! Very well crafted and immersive, but that being said: this is exactly the type of games I'd never expect to play on a Playdate. Those warnings at the start? No joke. This is actually a heavy-hitting, propper psychological horror experience, so if that doesn't sound like a good time to you, it probably wont be. And that goes double if you are bothered with themes of illnesses and hospitals.

"Nightingale" affected me more than I could've ever expected, which serves as testament to how well it is made. But it's absolutely not for everyone.

So, when I ordered my Playdate, I started browsing for games to make a wishlist. This was one of the games that I put on that list on Day One. I expected it to be a simple, fun, replayable adventure. And it is, but in a much better way than I expected.

This one is worth it for sure. It's engaging while you're playing and it's arcade style makes it easy to dive into, play for a bit and then let go after you've done a run.

Certainly one of the most fun arcade games I've played on the Playdate.

I feel assessed. And watched.

The first Playdate game that I purchased and sideloaded onto my console on the day that it arrived. And I still play it quite often!

This one isn't just full of spirit, but it's also really fun. Plus, as highlighted in the description: you can pet the dog. And that's what I'd like to call a selling point!

It took me a couple of days to beat the Story mode of the game, but there's tons more to discover after that and I'm not done on that front yet. But even after, I see myself coming back to play, just because of how fun it actually is.

PS: I love how Playdate devs have effectively established this dog cult. It's just awesome!

Such a cool concept that I still struggle to grasp my head around it. This game features a lot of technically and visually impressive ideas. The core gameplay loop is very fun, but there's something related to the state switch of the Snoik itself that just messes up my head. I can't explain it, but it feels like the colors are wrong sometimes. Half the time, I can't tell if the colors need to match or not match and it's very easy to get confused like that.

Playdate and watch, but funnier in a grim way. What more could you want?

What an odd game. And actually, it's not even a game. But it's something that I revisit daily, at least twice and I always enjoy. So what is it? A toy? An app? A Pokemon clone? Neither. It's something unique, just like the Playdate itself, which is why every Playdate owner should get these two.

The entire premise makes me wish for another update, where battling could indeed be introduced. Maybe through the PC application or one for Android? It just feels like it should be there.

Really fun! Especially when combined with the quippy dialogue. It's more of an arcade game than anything and it has that staple Strangest.io vibe for sure. Speaking of staples, I'd call it a Playdate staple too. My only gripe with the game is that moving the cursor around sometimes feels way too slow, but I understand that it would be very difficult to make it otherwise.

This was wonderful.

I wanted to jump in and say that this is awesome! I'm really eager in trying out a finished product. If you ever need help with the visuals - HMU! I'm totally on board for helping make this a reality.
