After TONS of searching trying to find this exact thing, I finally found it -- and in an easy to use RenPy-ready format. Thank you! I'll be using it in my upcoming game "The Shadow Over Cyberspace."

All three games have OPTIONAL romance -- you don't need to engage with it and can in fact turn it off. Penny Larceny has adult content in the form of dialogue and implied sex but you also can turn that off if you don't want it.

We don't have plans at this time -- publishing to the consoles costs money and Penny isn't even 10% towards breaking even. If that changes in the future, we'll consider it.

Thanks for reporting that! I re-uploaded the file to itch. Let me know if it works now.

You're welcome! We've steadily improved our ace and aro support moving forward, too -- in Arcade Spirits: The New Challengers you have a unique story path you can follow if you're aro with unique scenes, and in Penny Larceny: Gig Economy Supervillain you can fully explore a character's story with or without romancing them!

No, that would've cost us thousands and thousands of dollars. But it has voice for key emotional moments, introductions, finales, etc.

yes, the Steam version will automatically update. We have information over there about how you can roll back to the previous version if you have to. This shouldn't affect all saved game, just some, but if you have issues please read: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1484620/view/3365892887507066436

The directories you'll want to copy are named "persistent" and "Arcade Spirits-1487458431".

  • Windows: These directories are located in %APPDATA%\RenPy or C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\RenPy
  • Mac OS X: ~/Library/RenPy
  • Linux/Other: ~/.renpy

Yeah, we're planning a patch for this and other issues in the weeks ahead. Thanks!

That's outside of our control. We just upload the files to itchio -- itchio handles payment systems themselves.

The Locksley one is on our list of things to fix, but if you can indicate any other lines, please reach out to me at stefangagne@gmail.com and I'll fix them. Thanks!

We'll still have that in the full game, but for the demo, we wanted to showcase the system without hiding it. Same goes for skipping the FOD2 minigame -- in the full game you can just skip it if you don't enjoy it but for the demo we wanted to showcase it.

We're using the RenPy game engine, so it compiles to Win, Mac, and Linux. We'll be working with another team to port to various game consoles (PS4, PS5, XB1, XSX, Switch)

Not currently -- there'd be issues with eyelines (where it looks like you're properly looking at each other's faces) if we added scaling. We know we can't provide every single option someone could want, but we're willing to do what we can with the tech we have.

There is a Mac version -- but Itch isn't displaying the link names right. I'll see about fixing that up.

Are you running the Win, Mac, or Linux version? And are you running it with elevated security permissions of some sort?

Okay, I asked, and the most likely reason is you're running the game in a sandbox mode -- it may be the security settings on your mac causing that. If the game is sandboxed any files it makes will be wiped once the sandbox mode ends. Sorry, I don't know much about macs so I can't say what's causing it, just what it could be in theory.

I'll ask on the forums for our engine but I'm afraid we're reliant on RenPy for mac and linux support -- we don't have any macs to test it on.

Check your preferences -- there are various kinds of skips you can enable or disable. Purple means it's enabled.

Arcade Spirits would like to join this bundle, if there's still time.

Thank you! I can't talk about our future plans yet, but keep an eye out. We're not considering a mobile port at this time as mobile visual novels require drastic overhauls to account for free-to-play monetization which really disagrees with us, and would need a UI overhaul as well. Right now we're more focused on other projects.

Eight total!

We don’t currently have plans to go to anime expo, but we do have plans for a storefront. Keep an eye on our Twitter for details!

The actual game is running the latest version of the engine. I’ll update the demo after we get back from PAX. Thank you!

No, I'm pretty sure itch.io lets you buy directly with a credit card without needing paypal.

Thank you! We'll look into those.

I've been wanting to get back in the swing of game development since leaving NWN. I learned one key thing in my NWN days... I cannot be a one-man-band of a game studio. I burned out hard doing that. But this time I have a great team backing me up and together we've carved out the game of our dreams. Hope you enjoy!

That's correct! You get both a direct DRM-free download from itch, and a bonus Steam key. (The Steam version is also DRM-free, for that matter. DRM sucks and is anti-consumer)

You can save at choices -- hit the Escape key to pull up the menu. I do this often, myself! As for right click we found it was a problem for folks less familiar with Renpy's default contro mapping, that they'd hit it accidentally and get pulled out of the game. We can look into a way to allow the user to change the mapping to whatever they want, though. Thanks!

EDIT: As for scrollback -- we intentionally left that out so your choices matter, but it IS unlocked after one complete playthrough of the game. Or if you enter a cheat code. :)

Unfortunately we weren’t able to get a pre-order directly on Steam. You can pre-order a Steam key through green man gaming, or just wait for the games launch and buy directly on Steam. The 10% discount will stay in effect for one week after launch so you’re not missing out on anything.

Thanks so much for the Let's Play! Unfortunately due to the number of customizable CG event scenes where your character appears, we couldn't go hog wild on hair and clothing -- it'd balloon our budget. This is something we're going to be taking into account if we get to make a sequel, though.

Still on track to release the full game in Q1 2019! We'll update everyone who's following the game here on itch when it's ready to roll. If you'd like to follow weekly developer blog updates check out http://stefangagne.com/blog or http://arcadespirits.tumblr.com !

Not a specific one! We're targeting Q1 2019.

Hello, hello! It's my first game on itch.io and I'm incredibly excited!

Arcade Spirits is a romantic comedy where you work in a video arcade in 20XX, an alternate history where the great video game crash never happened. Get to know your fellow staff and the pro gamers who hang out at the Funplex, a mom 'n pop quarter muncher -- and fight to protect their dreams from corporate rivals, street gangs, unruly customers, and more.
