Update: Turns out I have to reach level 5 for all 3 characters in my party to meet the criteria.
Suggestion: Make the daylight go down gradually as the characters level up. So every level would make the sun go down slowly. And maybe have the captain say something about that so we get the hint (I can be quite dumb at times).
There is more minor things, like items not being obvious like the sword that we need to get. It blends rather well in the environment, so it's not obvious to pick it up. It could be seen as a prop like the armor that hangs around at the beginning of the game, giving a false impression. Areas that could be entry ways aren't always obvious either, I end having to check every corner to see if it does something - and some may not like that aspect of exploring every nook and cranny.
I think I understand how this game works now though, it's just very confusing at the start.

Thanks for clarifying, I also have a question. It now tells me to ''train and gather provisions more'' when heading back to the boat. I fished and battled quite a bit and haven't seen any changes on the daylight or a prompt telling me that I have gathered enough stuff or levels. There is no mission log telling me what to do to check if I have met the criteria either. Is that where the game ends? Because I am seeking to save but can't unless there is a save point.
