I am in the US.  Getting slapped into emails like this isn't a cultural thing.  It's a scummy business thing.  And not to be rude, but the GDPR bit you guys have is new.  It's not like companies have been unable to do this in the EU since the birth of the internet.  They've just recently had to stop.

The admin here is trying to blame people using a script for the issue; that is intentionally attempting deflection.  He understands the issue, but he/she/the company does not want to accept blame for it.  A script didn't make these emails happen.  Adding purchased items to ones library does so.  Doesn't matter if a person used an automated method to acheive this, or manually added the items.  The result is the same.

Good luck with your mail to their support.  I wouldn't hold my breath, however.  And please do report them, if it is actually a GDPR violation.

Two solutions (one of which is terribly unacceptable).


Per the admin Leafo, they can remove the games you purchased from your account.  Now, arguably you still have the ability to get the game (you still own it), however you have to re-add it in order to access/download it.  ie. Go back to getting the spam.  Not really a solution.


Alternately, setup a rule via your email provider or email client to automatically delete any email from postmaster@itch.io (or send it to spam, or other similar location).  Not sure what other emails you might miss from itch, but at this point...  Do you care?


I went with the latter.  I want to be able to get the products I paid for.

Have you seen what they do if you complain about getting spam related to things you add to your library, and try to blame on using a script like this?

Fact is, script or not, if you add things you buy to your library, expect to get spam that you have to disable one at a time.  And you can only do so via the first spam you get for each item.  You can't disable all these emails in one go; there's no setting on the site to do so.  You have to click an unsubscribe link from each individual email.

Script has nothing to do with it.  Simply having the items in your library will do it.  It's not stopping them from blaming the script, though!

Yeah, I really have to agree with everyone else; running a script has nothing to do with it.  You're trying to deflect the issue by implying that using a script caused this to happen.


The same thing would be happening to someone who went, one by one, adding the same items to their library by hand.  You should really stop trying to scapegoat something that has no bearing on the situation.  It makes you (or itch, assuming this is something they're specifically directing you to say) look foolish.

Have you made a report yet?  Would like to hear the response you get from whomever it is gets the report.

Bit the bullet.  Installed the ScriptAutoRunner and used the modded script posted above.  Took a while, even with me being half way through it manually, but it was worth it.

Thanks for confirmation on that.  Was waiting to hear what happened.  Guess it's time to filter it all to trash, or spam.  Either way.

So at this point, how can I easily tell what I have grabbed, and what I have not?  I figured I would leave a tab open, and be able to return to the list and work my way through it.  Unfortunately the list order has changed, and I no longer have any idea where I need to resume from...

This is pretty disappointing.  I've been getting these emails too, after buying the Ukraine bundle.  Haven't used any script, just been manually going to the download page so items get added to my library.  I never wanted any emails from creators.


And yea, I don't want to miss normal itch.io emails, but it looks like there is no other option.  A shame.
