Thank you very much for all the feedback and for the advice. I will keep it all in mind for my next game jam. I have studies Agile and Waterfall development methods but admittedly it's not something I considered when working on this project but it is definitely something I will consider next time. Thank you also for your kind words regarding the UI and game concept. Regarding the music, however, I must apologise but I foolishly forgot to re-enable sound in the code (I disabled it temporarily to listen to music while I worked on the game). If you are interested though, the music files can be found by extracting the jar file, although it may be easier to wait for the next release. I appreciate the game is very underdone as of this game jam version, unfortunately, but I hope you'll return to the project when it reaches full release. And thanks again for the feedback.
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. Admittedly the game is in a very early stage and is very incomplete and buggy at the moment (perhaps to the point of being virtually unplayable). I apologise for this, but I failed to meet the deadline. Thank you all the same for the playing and for your feedback.
I had planned to move on to other projects now, with this project being complete, but with enough interest I may recreate the game into a more fully-fledged game with a story (the kind you get with platformers) and decent characters. Perhaps that would be a sequel if I ever went through with the idea.
Unfortunately, I am not an artist and am unable to create any decent artwork. This causes issues with all of my projects. For this game, I used royalty-free art assets from Kenney.nl but struggled to find matching blocks and characters that would suit the game.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback and I hope I've answered your questions.
Earlier this month I began development on my second game. It was a solo project that I had been working on throughout December. It is now complete and available to play in browser. I'm very interested in hearing any feedback you may have. To play the game, click that link that follows or the widget below: http://hal-9001.itch.io/red-blue
I'm currently reaching the end of development on a small HTML5 puzzle-platformer game. If you're interested, I could send you a copy of the game's current state, or a demo video. I very much like your work, and I am looking for a track, if possible in the style of your 'Clockwork Factory', of 'In the Hall of the Mountain King'. Ideally, I'd like it to loop well. Please reply if you're interested.
For me, the greatest game soundtrack has to be that of my all-time favourite game: Grim Fandango. The game itself combined film noire with Mexican folklore (in addition to Aztek and other things). Likewise, the game's OST consists of Swing and Mexican music. A link to the soundtrack is below (a version of the remastered version can be found elsewhere online as that game was recently remastered after 16/17 years).

Additionally, it's definitely worth checking out other work of Peter McConnell as he is a musical genius and very dynamic with his game compositions.
To pick a single song from the OST, here is the first track - 'Casino Calavera' (the remastered edition):
Hello Itch.io. My name is Matthew and I have recently started making games (just a few months ago I released by debut game), despite programming as a hobby since the late 2000s. Although I was born at the end of the decade, my favourite games are the LucasArts adventure games of the 1990s, and those games inspired me to want to develop my own games (point and click adventure and otherwise).
