Getting past that requires you to use the broomstick to whack one of them. The control for that is E but is only unlocked after you collect the broomstick from behind the first door (this wasn't clear so I'll be updating the description).
Yeah I figured it out. Thank you. This game was amazing once I figured out how everything works.
