Hello! I'm an experienced writer who's been working in the game industry for a long time. Mostly as a journalist and then in Comms / PR / Marketing, but I do have credits and experience working on both AAA and indie projects. I want more!

You can DM me on Discord (Jaggernaut25) or reach me via my website. You can see games I've worked on here and some game-specific writing samples here.

Hope to hear from you!

Wow, this game is like a DREAM!!!! Amazing stuff. Is this just like a super-charged version of Super RPG Land, or is it more like a sequel?

Awesome! I just sent you a friend request on Discord.

Hello everyone!

My name is David Jagneaux, but I use my alias Retro Blasted on itch. I've done some small projects on my own in the past, such as a prototype in GB Studio, a few Twine short stories, and I've dabbled with Game Maker and RPG Maker over the years, but the majority of my background is in writing. I have a degree in Technical Writing, I wrote a book about Roblox for kids, I was a game journalist for 10 years, and am currently working in comms / PR / marketing for a game studio. I'm really eager to get more experience in narrative design, so that's what I'm here for!

Feel free to check out some of my projects out on itch, my personal website, and my LinkedIn.

Writer looking for a team! Let me bring your game to life with a great narrative.

I'm mostly a writer and narrative designer. My background is all in writing with a degree in Technical Writing. I was a game journalist for about 10 years and now I work in gaming comms and PR/Marketing. I've done some solo projects in the past using things like GB Studio, Game Maker, RPG Maker, and Twine, which you can find on my page.

This is a fantastic pack with a great variety of tracks. Anyone working on a retro-style RPG should check this out! Would love to work with you on one of my games, Bryan!

3.0

thank you! and the player is set as a platform character, so that's just the jumping animation sprite. by default it repeats when you're in the air

thank you so much! This is a really encouraging comment for me, I'm a writer first and foremost so I'm glad you enjoyed the little story I laid the groundwork for and I was worried about whether or not the game itself was compelling enough. So far comments have been pretty reassuring that it has potential as a full game! I am eager to upload the patched version haha

mission accomplished! Thanks!

that's what I was going for, thank you!

luckily I fixed both of those things already!

GB Studio

was it some of the scene transitions? I'm not sure what's causing that tbh

haha yes, love them!

If you're referring to the second downward falling section, that part is messed up. I didn't leave a gap large enough to get through because I ran out of time and couldn't test it fully! Once the jam is over I'll upload a new build with lots of bug fixes, smoothing out levels like that, and finishing the boss fight.

I'm glad you like the parts that are working as intended right now!

false alarm, I'll have to do more tweaking it seems!

Just tried out the local variable trick and that worked I think! Thanks again!

This was fun! I liked the sense of urgency and it's pretty intuitive to go between planting, watering, and feeding.

Thanks!!

Thank you! And yes, just poor time management on my end to get that stuff tested and fixed. One extra hour would have helped T_T haha

Really love this. Totally blows me away as a Gameboy game. The art is great and I can't even imagine how complicated it must have been to build something like this with the choice-driven narrative during a 7-day game jam. Wow!

Thank you, I'm really glad you like it so far. I'm aware of those level issues, they've already been fixed in the next version, but I ran out of time for the jam haha. That's a perfect idea to solve the collision issue, I'll definitely do that.

For the theme, it's just that it's a story being told in the past, the rules were pretty open for interpretation and said taking place in the past is fine.

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it.

Aware of both of those issues you mentioned, thank you for the kind words!!! I was trying to emulate the slow, deliberate feel of retro Castlevania but once I go back to expand and update this I think I'll speed things up and make the player character taller.

Appreciate you 🙏

messaged on discord!

is there anyway to get the embed working? Since you know I uploaded on time I figured I'd ask haha

Wow, such an inventive idea with the worm hole and rotating to shoot. This is really fun! Definitely has potential as a full game and the music is amazing.

ahhhhhhh! Got it. I will fix that after the jam is over :)

As the title says. I have both the ROM and HTML uploaded as .zip files, but couldn't get the embed to work. Is that a problem?

Ohhh good to know!

(1 edit)

It needs to be a valid GB ROM so I'd assume black/white or DMG greenscale palette.

awesome, I just bought the full bundle so I look forward to the rpgm support :) I was tempted to cut and paste and separate them myself but I'll wait haha that way it'll be more seamless

What do you think is the ETA on official RPG Maker (MV) support? Just curious!

That makes sense!

(1 edit)

You should be able to use an image software like GIMP to adapt the walking sprites for combat, that's what I've done in the past for sprites.

Interested in grabbing this for RPG Maker MV. Is it pretty straightforward to get it working in there?

Once I've imported them into the Resource Manager and added the tileset to a map (in the A5) category and start mapping things out, the screen is just black once I launch a playtest. I must be missing something super obvious haha
