The rating period is now over, which means we have our top 5 winning games! We were able to expand to top 5 placement instead of top 3, thanks to the generosity of our guest judges + sponsors.

First place: Takoyaki  by weekend.

Second place: Sumi and the Soulless Spirits by Nacho Average Team.

Third place:  LoveWire by Minty Fresh Dragon Breath.

Fourth place: Freedom Frogs by Introverts of the Void.

Fifth place: The Way Home by FROGGERS.

We also have a series of Honorable Mentions; check them out below!

Ghost Town Gunner, Sibyl & Ranger vs. the Dark Matter Danger, A Story of the Universe, A Tied Tale, KANKEINASHI: un-Connected, Keyboard Warrior, Purgatory Flip

HUGE congrats to EVERYONE who participated in the game jam, we're so blown away by your talent and hard work!

Hey everyone! It is now 5 PM, which means all game scores are live on itch.io! ✨ Go check them out on the jam entries page!

Some notes:

💬 The student panel tried our best to leave comments on every single game! The comment(s) listed are by the student panelists.

⭐ Itch.io only allows grading on a 5 star basis -- each CGJ category was out of 10 points for a total of 40! So the star rating displayed probably doesn't reflect your actual score very accurately (due to rounding and stuff). Check the comments for your score out of 40!

🌟 For the same star reason above, all of the top 5 games have been rated 5/5 in every category just to ensure that they are displayed at the top! Also, the score displayed for those games is the STUDENT PANEL SCORE, not the final ranking as decided by guest judges. The ultimate ranking is still what is displayed in our Discord (+ will be posted in a separate thread!)

Thank you so much for attending!! We couldn't have done this without you all <3 <3

You can DM me on Discord! If you're not in it already you can join here: https://tiny.cc/CGJDiscord

It's a bit late now but we'll try as best as we can to at least give a student panel score!

OMG it was totally that, I was trying to mash instead of holding!! Thank you!

Unfortunately it seems like "Enter to start" does not work, stuck on title screen :(

For whatever reason shooting only works some of the time (unless I am misunderstanding the controls)! Can't really play without that unfortunately :(

Same for me unfortunately :( If OP sees this, we did give a bunch of teams late submit links for similar problems!

Hi everyone! CONGRATS on finishing the jam! 🥳🎈 Whether you submitted or not, learning + working on new things is an awesome thing to celebrate! The student panel will be working hard to score your games and send the top 3 over to our guest judges. We have a few new things for you to do while you wait, if you want!

1. Please give us feedback on your jam experience! http://tiny.cc/CGJ21Feedback 💬

As you all know, this is our first time ever hosting the College Game Jam! 💞 We've been blown away by the level of interest and participation, and we truly appreciate the fact that you chose to go on this journey with us! We'd really love to know how we could make this jam better for you all if we do run it again, so if you can, please take some time to fill out the form above!

2. Enter our Post-Jam RAFFLE! http://tiny.cc/CGJ21Raffle (Entries due 4/9, 11:59 PM PT!)

We have some adorable swag from Riot Games to raffle away, thanks to the fantastic @[Riot] Megan Zhu! Prizes are as follows:
🎒 5 Poro Mini Backpacks (approx. 15 x 12 inches)
🧸 5 League of Legends Collectible Plushes (Thresh, Fizz, Teemo, Volibear, and Catling)

TO ENTER: play your fellow Jammer's games + leave a comment with 1 thing you liked and 1 thing that you think could be improved! (Be nice/encouraging and constructive, obviously!) Then, fill out the form above with links to your itch.io comments. This raffle is open even to people who didn't participate in the jam (so tell your friends at school to check out some neat student games!), but Jammers who submitted a game will get 2 extra tickets as a thank-you!
⚠️ The raffle is open to US/Canadian residences only! We can't ship internationally at this time 😢 If you live overseas, please still feel free to play other Jammer's games, just be aware we can't send you raffle prizes.

Hey everyone! Hope your work is going well!

Reminder that the submission deadline is Sunday, April 4th, 11:59 PM PACIFIC TIME! Please make sure you know what time that is in your local time zone! Click here for a time converter.

Some other notes about submission:

📝Our registration form is due at the same time! 10/10 would recommend doing it in advance. https://tiny.cc/CGJ21Reg

⚠️ When you submit on itch.io, you will be prompted to answer the below questions:

1. Did you register for the College Game Jam via the Google Form? http://tiny.cc/CGJ21Reg
2. What is your Team Name?
3. Did you write the vast majority of your code (excluding permitted asset packages) during the jam period (3/29 - 4/4)?
4. Were your art assets made during the jam period?
5. If you’d like: list the visual/audio/music assets in the game that you created. You may also do this in the game description (which is editable after the deadline passes).
6. If your submission includes mature content, have you included all relevant warnings in your game's description?
7. Would you like to receive feedback from your fellow jam participants?

You can view all these questions in this Google Doc. I would recommend answering them in advance somewhere so you can copy-paste when the time comes!

Hi everyone! There is ONE day until the College Game Jam starts! We're super excited to kick this off, and we hope you are too! Below are some action items to make sure that you're as prepared as possible!

1. Gather your teammates! Post in #looking-for-team in Discord or check out our looking for team thread!

2. Register your team via our Google Form: http://tiny.cc/CGJ21Reg

This is REQUIRED for you to be eligible for prizing, as this is how we'll verify that all of your team members are students!
If you do not have an .edu email for registration, contact collegegamejam@gmail.com ASAP! We anticipate being extremely busy during the jam, so contact us now for the fastest turnaround!

3. Click "Join Jam" on itch.io! You need to join in order to submit your game at the end. http://tiny.cc/CGJ21

4. Register for the workshops that you're interested in! (All links are below!)

Registration is REQUIRED, we highly recommend you register in advance; our Zoom approvals are all manual, so if you register as the event is starting or a few minutes before, you may not be able to connect!
Tuesday, 3/30 6 - 7 PM: Prototyping Workshop with Stone Librande (Lead Designer at Riot Games) http://tiny.cc/CGJ21Proto
Wednesday, 3/31 6 - 7 PM: 2D Art Fundamentals Workshop with @[UCB] Celine (Game Design and Development @ Berkeley) http://tiny.cc/CGJ21Work2D
Thursday, 4/1 7 - 8 PM: Technical Art Workshop with @[Riot] Jeremy Ernst (Senior Principal Technical Artist at Riot Games) http://tiny.cc/CGJ21TechArt
Friday, 4/2 4 - 5 PM: Multiplayer Networking Workshop with Robert (Game Design and Development @ Berkeley) http://tiny.cc/CGJ21WorkNet

5. Follow us on Twitch so you don't miss our Kickoff at 12 PM PT on 3/29, where we'll reveal our optional theme + review the jam schedule! http://twitch.tv/collegegamejam

6. Review the jam schedule so you're up to speed on all the cool stuff that will happen during the jam, including 1-on-1 opportunities to get help with your project from professional devs!

Hello! Please email us at collegegamejam@gmail.com and let us know an alternative method of proving that you're a university student! We can provide you with a separate registration form.

Thanks so much for understanding! 💞💞

I see, thanks for the clarification -- unfortunately, since they're a graduate, they wouldn't be eligible to win the prizing listed. :( Your friend is welcome to join the Discord community, attend workshops or even submit a game, but the jam does require that all teammates be currently enrolled in a degree program in order to win prizes. Let me know if I can assist further!

We're very excited to have you! Glad I could help, let me know if I can answer anything else! ^_^

Hi Connor! I’m not completely informed on what a post-completion OPT is (just Googled it, haha) — are you currently enrolled as a student/taking classes at your university?

(1 edit)

Hi hi! Yes, students at universities outside of North America are 100% welcome to the jam!

However, part of the first place prize (CORSAIR peripherals) cannot ship outside of North America, so if you were to hypothetically win that prize, it would be swapped. That’s the only part of the jam could be affected by location, the other prizing (feedback from industry guest judges) would be awarded as normal! Just keep in mind all deadlines are in Pacific Time and you’ll be good. 😊

Hi all! My name is Julia/juliwaves, and I'm one of your hosts for the College Game Jam. This thread is for any questions you might have about the jam; post anything here and I'll get back to you ASAP!

(Or, join our Discord for a more direct line of contact to the jam hosts!)
