Oh yes! I need to start working around the engine...I don't know if I should go for Ren'py or try out Game Maker Studio or RPG Maker, so I might need to do a bit of research first. Therefore, I have all the information I need after I complete the game process. (But this is not like, that urgent. I might just do it as breaks I take during the day.)
Good! ...so my symbolism ability (I really don't know how to express this) is actually worse than I ever thought. Luckily I have the character trait settled down, and I can save the settings for later.
To-Dos:
I think I need to start doing character designs tomorrow, and perhaps (if it is possible, meaning if I suddenly have the inspiration or overloaded energy) I can extend some more on the setting.
Character design checklist:
-shape language
-personality
-motive, relationship with each other (optional)
My To-Do List for Tomorrow:
Now I have the rough outline of the story, I think I need to start building it. I don't want to make it as a reality-show-like thing so I want to use a ton of symbolism in the story. I think I am going to do some research tomorrow about what symbolism I should imply and build a "bank" about everything I might be using, analyze it and save it for later.
Day 2:
Ehehehe...it's technically day 3 and I kinda feel guilty but let's just say the whole thing is about keeping updated. So today I have the idea down, and I cannot stress how magical it is to just put everything down. I got very frustrated for the whole day thinking there was nothing in my brain that is worth putting down, and as soon as I toss down the pieces that I have things started to link together like a miracle. It's like playing a jigsaw puzzle without even knowing it is a jigsaw puzzle. A great majority of the ideas actually came from some of the songs I listen to and I hope it doesn't count as plagiarism...
This is the mind map. Sorry for any grammar/spelling mistakes and my messy handwriting...English is not my mother tongue and I use it purely because I feel like it is more convenient and I need to write things down really fast without caring much about the action of writing.
Day 1:
I want to start with some short ideas formed in the structure of "xxx, but xxx". This is a way I found pretty helpful to test out possibilities when everything is just starting because the process from "nothing" to "at least something" is the most challenging step for me. I will update my notes tomorrow and then you can see how far I've got. Good luck to me...
Greetings! Medinut here, and this is my very first Devtober. I am far from "skilled" as I barely hold any game development experience except for one board game I did for a short-term project. I kinda want to keep this devlog as a record for a desperate noob trying to find a way better off. So yeah! I really hope it goes well for everyone.
Thank you! I guess I should break it down a bit more since I feel like I am making the whole thing complicated for myself. (BTW I guess I failed to explain about the layout design part...I started on that earlier because I thought if I am designing a room escaping game I should work on how the room looks and how the props in the room can help the player. But I am sure that I am a bit off track since I did spend a lot of time tangling in art. Thank you again!)
So I was thinking of making a video game... a room escape game, to be more specific. I have done several plannings on a piece of paper about the flow chart, and I tried to do some layout design and several case studies. But I still have no idea where to take the first step: do you do the programming first? If so, which platform would be the best to perform the task? Or do you make the art first? And the most part that freaks me out: how is it possible to just start learning an engine from scratch? (for some reason I feel like I don't speak computer...like I am allergic to technology)
