It’s so cute! I love how well you put everything together. I couldn’t see the timer until I went to full screen though. The hamsters felt a little hard to control - maybe if you want to keep working on the game, you could add some stats that you can level up to make turning sharper?

This is definitely a challenging game. It would have been nice to have music on the main menu page.

I think the problem is the sprite sheets I was using were different, so scaled poorly. I will update that! I actually haven’t applied any filters, so will be mindful when I am scaling the sizes of the images.

Yes, this is a prototype - only the second game I’ve ever created. I will add that to the description - thanks! All of the plots are supposed to work, so I have more investigating and testing to do.

An unfortunate bug - for some reason after some changes to the code, only the very bottom area of the top row of plots registers. I am investigating but it will take me some time to figure out. The trees I didn’t have time to implement a logging system.

Sound effects were in my mind for tilling/planting/harvesting, unfortunately I just didn’t have the time. I really appreciate all this feedback :)

Update 31 Oct 2023 Save Button works - with visual aid Return to Main Menu works and stops music. Load Game works

Known issues: Loaded data only includes player position. Loading a game with planted crops loads a blank screen

Added Intro Screen with music.

Known Issues (there’s a lot!)

Save Button works(?) but no visual aid. Return to Main Menu works but doesn’t stop game music. Unable to Load game data - still working on it. Overall gameplay works, until you try to save/load/return to main menu.

Time now advances and affects crops. You can now harvest crops and replant. Added an “inventory” to keep track of harvested crops.

Known issues:

Unable to chop trees (not yet implemented) - likely will be done after game jam submission period. A Save button exists, but it does nothing (will be implemented in desktop version, likely after game jam submission period) A Return to Main Menu button exists, but it does nothing (will be implemented in desktop version, likely after game jam submission period) GUI doesn’t scale to full screen. Before clicking OK after advancing time, can click on the bed to advance time again.

Update 25 Oct 2023

Added a day tracker - a pop up will appear after you interact with the bed telling you what day you are on. Added a menu - you can now change your avatar and the volume. Added a mute button. 24 Avatars available to choose from. Added credits. Music now plays. Music loops like it should.

Known issues:

Fixed the issue with being able to change the seed planted (planting over an already planted seed is no longer possible). Added a tent and expanded the playable area Added a bed and an interaction

My first working farming game. Currently able to till land and plant seeds - there is an issue with being allowed to overwrite the current seed with a new one.

Oh do I have lots of plans for this project….

Music! I do have some tracks picked out, but for the mechanics testing I have omitted them for now.

Upgrades! I would like to allow the player to expand the farmable area with upgrades in the future.

Content! There will be more overworld map to explore (more farmland, a forest, and a secret), and a mine.

Save/Load! I have laid the foundations for this, and the game will be savable.

Mobile! As my 7 year old thinks I’m making this game for him - it will be available on mobile, eventually.

As this game is part of Open Game Art’s Fall 2023 Game Jam, I plan on having a working prototype completed by the end of the submission period. However, full functionality and finalized graphics/soundtracks won’t be finished until 2025, as I would like to spend more time on my Dress the Toddler! game.

I welcome your thoughts! This is meant to be a relaxing game, where you can go at your own pace.

Please post any feedback here! Currently I am looking for mechanics feedback.

  1. How is the spacing for highlighting tillable areas in the fields?
  2. Should more tooltips be added?
  3. Currently I’ve limited selecting tools to either pressing the button, or pressing the shortcut 1, 2, or 3. 4) When implemented (I’ve broken something in the web playable atm), the tools will work only in the highlighted area.

-some UI elements are missing - I set the resolution wrong, and will correct. -there is an issue with the pause button not behaving as intended during the minigame -no keyboard mapping to WASD (thanks to CapturedRapture and Rick W on Discord) - will implement -no full screen button (thanks to Rick W on Discord) - will implement -completing the minigame does not end the game as intended(thanks to Rick W on Discord).
