We considered a slower game with more strategy at first, that’s why the hud shows so many upcoming cards. But we settled on a more rushed game mode where you are under constant stress to react quickly. We intend to iterate and play test a ton more before going to mobile.

It’s definitely balanced for more experienced players atm and isn’t very welcoming to new ones. Some of us who have been playing it occasionally these past few days can get to the end on a good run, but we definitely intend to improve the difficulty curve at the start for new players.

thanks for your feedback!

Thanks! The lava does start close, but since the game doesn't start till you play your first move and you can see the next 8 cards you can play, we figured it offered a chance to plan your first few moves. But mainly it's cause we liked how the lava looks and wanted it on the screen from the get-go xD
We're super excited to further develop it into a mobile game after how well it's been received!

Really clever combination of game mechanics! Don't think I've seen anything like it before.

Good job!

Thank you!! It's definitely not easy at first, but with enough practice, it's super rewarding getting higher and higher!

With the mobile game in the works, an easier learning curve will be a big priority so that new players arent scared away.

Thanks for playing!

Thank you so much! We love to hear that people kept playing and pushed through the initial learning curve. It's definitely something we wish we had more time to balance out, but just creating the level and choosing the speed of the player and lava came down to the wire. We honestly feel super lucky that it turned out as playable as it is. Albeit hard to pick up at first.

That was fun! movement controls caught me off guard at first since I expected WASD/arrow keys to work, but after figuring it out, it was fun!

Wow thanks for the kind words!!

It's comments like these that make us excited to further develop the game for mobile!

Thanks a lot! Yah it’s a hard one, but every time I have a run that gets close to the end I get the shakes and such satisfaction if I beat it. Hard but super satisfying to win!

And yah, more time to test would have definitely lead to an easier start. Giving new players a better chance to pick up the little techniques it takes for a good run.

Thanks for playing!

Got it working! Must have been something on my end. Cool game!

What a cool game! Loved the character model and the polish. Movement felt nice. Although I would have liked an alternative movement like jumping/dashing. I was often unsure when my attacks were registering as hits. So some sound/indication would have helped. Overall cool game!

Thanks!!

Unfortunately, I'm not able to run it as it crashed my browser (and other browsers I tried) and I get a Win10 ransomware notification.

Thanks!!!

Thank you so much! We barely slept for 3 days to pull this off!

After how the game has been received, we're definitely excited to further develop and bring it to mobile!

Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks!! We are just as surprised as most of you that we ended up with all this polish hahaha. Credit to the artists for their amazing pixel art.

Thanks! Yah seems to be a common trend that some people find lava too fast and they get unlucky with horizontal cards. Always room for more balancing! Thanks for playing!

Cute design and I love that you added projectile collision!

Thanks!! Yeah, we considered it but ultimately didn't get around to implementing or testing it. We'll definitely explore it for future updates!

Thanks!

Yeah, the horizontal movement can be pretty unbalanced. An oversight due to our limited playtesting, but with a bit of tweaking, we're excited to explore this concept further!

Reply to this comment with your highscore!!  (Mines 1410)

Thanks! It goes up for about 2 seconds. We didn't get around to adding timers for effects that are time-based unfortunately.

Thanks!

Yah, with more time to playtest we would have realized that problem sooner...

Next iterations will definitely account for those pesky horizontal cards!

I love the art style! As far as point and clicks go, I would have liked more zoom elements like the first room with the keyhole.

Also, the last money item was a pain in the butt!

Blood sweat and tears.

Now that I think about it, a shuffle card would fit right in!

Thanks! Good idea! We had some similar ideas but I personally liked that the main interaction was just throwing cards and no buttons. Keeping the inputs minimal. Balancing out the cards and tempo I think would prove just as effective, but it’s deff something to consider!

thanks for playing!

Thanks! The cards could deff use some work ( IMO too many horizontal cards atm) but that’s a game jam for yah!

And I’ll deff throw up a Linux version today if I can figure it out!

Yah we fell short on time when it came to getting the game tempo feeling juuust right. Although getting a good start can deff set you up for a good run!

that’s totally fair! Yah we didn’t include instructions in the game, but if you check out the game page it should clear up any confusions.

Thanks for playing!
