Super polished overall, and super engaging puzzle mechanics. Moving the lava realtime vs on action totally changes the feel of the game, it would make it more strategic while now it sort of leads to some risky actions which might be a good thing.

If you're serious about moving mobile with it, invest some time in playtesting, change the game a bit (even in directions you don't necessarily agree with) and gather feedback.

Developer(+1)

wow, this strikes me as super great advice, thank you. There’s a lot of different versions of this mechanic that we weren’t able to think about or test in the three day limit. I’ll definitely keep this comment in mind!

gorgeous  game with some brain twisting puzzle mechanics. the lava starts maybe a little to close to the player at the beginning. The rising lava made my choices starting out very frantic but once I was ahead a bit I could think more carefully and maneuver around the obstacles of the game.

Its a really enjoyable casual game. I think the game mechanics would make the game a hit on mobile; swiping cards into play and such.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! The lava does start close, but since the game doesn't start till you play your first move and you can see the next 8 cards you can play, we figured it offered a chance to plan your first few moves. But mainly it's cause we liked how the lava looks and wanted it on the screen from the get-go xD
We're super excited to further develop it into a mobile game after how well it's been received!

Your game has a really nice game feel and an impressive amount of polish, especially for a jam! Really beautiful graphics, and great use of the theme and limitation. It was a bit too hard for me, cause I am not a great player ahah. Good job!

Developer

Thank you!! It's definitely not easy at first, but with enough practice, it's super rewarding getting higher and higher!

With the mobile game in the works, an easier learning curve will be a big priority so that new players arent scared away.

Thanks for playing!

Absolutely tremendous game! Great polish, and tons of fun. If I had the time, I could lose myself in tis for hours. At first I couldn't stay alive for more than a few cards. Now I'm up to like... 20. My only suggestion is to introduce elements a bit more slowly so that you can learn what they do. I still am a little hazy on some of the items and cards.

Congratulations, team!

Developer

Thank you so much! We love to hear that people kept playing and pushed through the initial learning curve. It's definitely something we wish we had more time to balance out, but just creating the level and choosing the speed of the player and lava came down to the wire. We honestly feel super lucky that it turned out as playable as it is. Albeit hard to pick up at first.

Submitted(+1)

This is an amazing result, even more impressing considering it's your first jam. Congratulations!

The game is hard, not gonna lie, but it happens when you don't have a lot of time to test it.

Developer

Thanks a lot! Yah it’s a hard one, but every time I have a run that gets close to the end I get the shakes and such satisfaction if I beat it. Hard but super satisfying to win!

And yah, more time to test would have definitely lead to an easier start. Giving new players a better chance to pick up the little techniques it takes for a good run.

Thanks for playing!

Man, the game is really well made. It's really hard to believe it's this team's first gamejam. Just seeing your page we can feel the game was made with great effort and love. Congratulations!

About the game, I felt it was a really too hard, as a strategic game, I was struggling to think which card was best to use, my thoughs was just to play fast and not get consumed by lava.

Developer

Yeah, we wanted to create a tension between strategic play but also fast decision making under pressure. We didn't have a ton of time to balance the game and it may have ended up a little TOO fast paced. It's definitely possible to learn patterns and get better, one of our programmers can regularly beat the game, but judging by our comments it's a bit inhospitable for new players. Thanks for your input!

Absolutely fantastic, loved it!

Developer

Thanks!!

Art is outstanding! Amazing work!

Developer

Thanks!!!

Wow simply the best game i've played so far, amazing graphics ! music sfx are good, and the concpet and presentation as well as the use of limitation are on point ! and knowing that it was made with godot really shows the new engine's potentiel, great game would be interessted in a mobile version, start working on that ASAP lol and a follow is deserved as well !

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! We barely slept for 3 days to pull this off!

After how the game has been received, we're definitely excited to further develop and bring it to mobile!

Submitted(+1)

Your game it's so polish and the pixel art it's superb and was made using godot!
Congratulations to all the team! The power of friendship once again defeated the evil!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words!

Very good game with a stressful and fun gameplay. The lava is maybe rising a little bit too fast and sometimes I had a lot of horizontal cards so I couldn't escape.  But still, had a lot of fun playing it and I love the aesthtics and level of polish!

Well done!!

Developer

Thanks! Yah seems to be a common trend that some people find lava too fast and they get unlucky with horizontal cards. Always room for more balancing! Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

It was the art for me. Definitely doesn't look like a game made for a game jam!

Developer(+1)

Thanks!! We are just as surprised as most of you that we ended up with all this polish hahaha. Credit to the artists for their amazing pixel art.

Submitted(+1)

Very well done! The aesthetics are awesome and the game is fun to play! I think maybe highlighting where you'll go before you place the card would be helpful (but maybe too easy). Either way, great job!

Developer (2 edits)

Thanks!! Yeah, we considered it but ultimately didn't get around to implementing or testing it. We'll definitely explore it for future updates!

Amazing entry, so much polish on top of a great core gameplay loop. Im blown away that this is your first jam. Im doing video feedback so here you go.

Developer(+1)

Melanie here, thank you so much for the feedback! The whole team watched it together and we really value your criticism. The absolute best part was watching how much you enjoyed the game. We were worried during the development stage on whether or not people would actually have fun (we only got to play-test a little before the submission deadline), so it's incredible to see people feel challenged rather than discouraged and try to go for one more run :0) !! Many thanks!

Developer

Hey Prinny, Adam here =D. I'm one of the two programmers for this game. All I can say is thank you so much for the video, your dialogue was awesome and validated all the work put into the game! Your suggestions were super important and informative so we will be keeping them in mind.  Thank you for enjoying the game xD

Submitted(+1)

Fantastic. It's great to see a team come together and produce something like this in merely 72 hours. Art is obviously incredible, concept is interesting (I find the horizontal movement to be very annoying), and game is very polished. Well done.

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thanks!

Yeah, the horizontal movement can be pretty unbalanced. An oversight due to our limited playtesting, but with a bit of tweaking, we're excited to explore this concept further!

I only hit 870 ;-;

Amazing sprites, combined with stressful but fun gameplay. I love what you did with the card mechanic, however sometimes there's no vertical movement available for a while, which ends in inevitable death, but other than that this is a solid submission.

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

Yah, with more time to playtest we would have realized that problem sooner...

Next iterations will definitely account for those pesky horizontal cards!

Submitted(+1)

It hasn't been that big a problem yet for as far as I've noticed, and I don't see it as that big of a problem, just thought I'd mention it in case you hadn't encountered it.
Plus things like these are inevitable with a game jam, so don't sweat it!

Submitted

Awesome game! Nice visuals , sound effects and music, felt great to play! I did find the lava up card to be kinda confusing tho, does it just make it fast forever?

Developer

Thanks! It goes up for about 2 seconds. We didn't get around to adding timers for effects that are time-based unfortunately.

Submitted(+2)

Great visuals and huge amounts of polish, this looks and feels just so good to play. Would also make a great mobile game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! Our idea was that if the concept ended up being fun to play, we'd build it out, balance it (and fix our gross code) and release it for mobile :)

Submitted(+2)

Really cool game although I felt that the lava was rising slightly too fast and didn't give me anytime to think about how i wanted to progress :) my best run was throwing all my cards down at the beginning or as soon as i got more and i luckily made it pretty far. Looked fantastic :)

Developer

Yeah, we had to retune the speed at the last second bc we realized we had made it frame rate dependent haha. We may have made it a bit too fast. Thanks for the input!
